  • Patent number: 10677678
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for detecting an unsealed location in a heat recovery system (5) of an internal combustion engine (1) of a motor vehicle. The heat recovery system (5) has at least one combustible working medium, a working medium circuit (6) with at least one EGR evaporator (7), a pump (8), and at least one expansion machine (9). The aim of the invention is to allow an early and reliable detection of leakages in the EGR evaporator (7) of a heat recovery system (5) in the simplest manner possible. This is achieved in that the internal combustion engine (1) is operated in the overrun mode, the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas is ascertained and compared with a defined lower threshold, and if the lower threshold is undershot, a leakage in the EGR evaporator (7) is detected.

Assignees: AVL List GmbH, Iveco S.P.A., FPT Industrial S.P.A.
Inventors: Klemens Neunteufl, Gerald Gradwohl, Helmut Altendorfer, Fabio Cococcetta, Thomas Eckhardt

  • Patent number: 8171898
Abstract: A crankcase breathing system (1) for an internal combustion engine includes at least one oil separating apparatus with a preliminary separator (3) and a main separator (4) arranged downstream of the same, with the preliminary separator (3) including a diffuser (11) between an inlet (7) and an outlet (8) which expands in the direction of flow. In order to achieve high separation rates in the simplest possible way it is provided that the preliminary separator (3) is arranged integrally with the main separator (4), with preferably the preliminary separator (3) and the main separator (4) forming a separator unit (2).

  • Publication number: 20090320775
Abstract: An internal combustion engine that includes a cylinder head and a cylinder block for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine includes at least one intake valve and one exhaust valve per cylinder, a combustion chamber covering surface adjacent to the combustion chamber, with an expansion joint being formed in the region between the individual cylinders normally to the longitudinal direction of the engine. A combustion chamber plate extending over several cylinders is arranged between the cylinder head and the cylinder block, with the expansion joint each being formed in the combustion chamber plate between two cylinders.
