  • Patent number: 4913272
Abstract: A flywheel continuously rotates, A piston within the rotating flywheel presses on a support which in turn presses on a friction clutch to engage the spindle press, whcih causes it to rotate with the flywheel. Upon disengagement, piston pressure is released, the spindle press lags and a part of the support lags with the spindle press, quickly disconnecting pressure on the friction clutch. Thus, the driving connection of the flywheel and spindle press is immediately disengaged from the flywheel without dealy otherwise caused by the slowness of return movement of the piston.

  • Patent number: 4890469
Abstract: A bending machine comprises a support to which first and second spaced cooperating bending devices are displaceably mounted. Each of the bending devices have first and second spaced cooperating bending components and the components of the first and second bending devices define a first axis extending between the bending devices and further define second and third axes extending generally transverse to the first axis and about which a length to be bent may pivot and each of the second and third axes are disposed between the components of one of the bending devices. A drive mechanism is operably associated with at least one of the components of each of the bending devices for causing displacement thereof. A guide system is operably associated with the support and with each of the bending devices so that displacement of the bending components by the drive system causes the bending components to move relative to the first axis and to engage the length to be bent extending between the devices.

  • Patent number: 4265347
Abstract: A clutch and safety overload for portable, power driven, hand tools is described. The clutch comprises a fixed half and a movable half which are urged into contact with each other more firmly as the load requirements increase. The load torque is fed back to the movable clutch half by a gear driven by the output spindle and which meshes with helical gearing carried by a jackshaft on which the movable clutch half is mounted. In one embodiment the overload safety is part of the clutch itself and involves a rotation of the movable clutch half in response to an overload condition, and against a spring force, which causes it to be displaced axially with respect to the jackshaft and out of engagement with the fixed clutch half. In a second embodiment, the overload safety comprises a mechanical linkage which disengages the clutch halves when the output stroke of the driven tool exceeds a predetermined amount.
