Patent number: 6612047Abstract: A length measuring device for determining a relative position of two objects, which can be moved relative to each other. The measurement device, includes a carrier body which supports the measurement device and is connected with a contact area with a mounting area of one of the two objects and with a scanning arrangement connected with another one of the two objects and scanning the measurement device along a measurement direction. Wherein a torque on an end face of the carrier body in the measurement direction acts on the carrier body in such a way that the contact area of the carrier body is pressed against the mounting area.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2002Date of Patent: September 2, 2003Assignee: Acu-Rite, Inc.Inventors: Mark Mazgaj, Helmut Welker

Patent number: 5168140Abstract: A beverage brewer and travel mug provided for brewing small quantities of a beverage within a microwave oven, includes a cup for receiving a charge defined for example by water and ground coffee, and a lid serving to contain the charge during the brewing operation, while allowing for escape of steam, and thereafter to permit transport of the brewed beverage without spilling and permit drinking of the beverage from which grounds are effectively filtered.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 1991Date of Patent: December 1, 1992Inventor: Helmut Welker

Patent number: 4721835Abstract: A brewer assembly which is particularly useful for preparing small quantities of coffee or the like in a microwave oven, comprised of a cup for accepting the charge of ground coffee and water, and a lid in the configuration of an inverted basket with a plurality of screen-covered openings for filtering the brewed beverage as it is poured from the cup. A stem-shaped tube extends above the top surface of the lid forming a lid handle whose interior provides a channel for venting the steam generated during the heating process. The tube extends below the top surface of the lid to prevent the discharge of the unfiltered brewing mixture through the vent opening when the device is tipped for discharging the finished beverage.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1986Date of Patent: January 26, 1988Inventor: Helmut Welker

Patent number: 4672201Abstract: A device for detecting alternating light and dark areas of a Vernier or Moire interference pattern. The device comprises a plurality of paired light sources and light detectors. The detector of each such pair is positioned to receive light from the corresponding source of each of such pairs. An opaque scale having transparent graduations and a grating having transparent graduations are included. The scale and grating are movable relative to each other and light from each light source is directed toward its corresponding detector through the scale and grating so that alternating light and dark areas in the form of an interference pattern are formed. The device also includes a light directing arrangement for independently allowing adjustment of the light emanating from each light source in a direction along a line passing through the light and dark areas and for allowing change of the amount of light received by the light detectors. The adjustments for phase and gain are substantially independent of each other.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1985Date of Patent: June 9, 1987Assignee: Acu-Rite IncorporatedInventor: Helmut Welker

Patent number: 4586760Abstract: A measuring scale casing or housing and spar therefor. The spar comprises integral top and back walls. The back wall is provided proximate its lower end, with a lip extending in the same direction as the top wall. The internal surface of the lip has a groove. The casing is provided with top, back and front walls and is provided with a downward protrusion proximate the bottom of the back wall. The protrusion is sized to fit within the groove of the lip of the spar in dovetail fashion when the exterior surface of the top wall of the casing is proximate the internal surface of the top wall of the spar and when the exterior surface of the back wall of the casing is flush against the internal surface of the back wall of the spar. The top wall of the casing is provided with a V-shaped groove and the spar is provided with set screws in the top wall.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1984Date of Patent: May 6, 1986Assignee: Bausch & Lomb IncorporatedInventor: Helmut Welker

Patent number: 4031595Abstract: Measuring apparatus using the vernier fringe concept of measurement to provide a precise digital numeric indication of displacement between two relatively movable members. The apparatus includes an accurately ruled grating or scale, a housing for supporting the scale, a transducer and a transducer support housing. The housing is secured to a flat mounting surface provided on one of the two relatively movable members while the transducer support housing is secured to the other of the two relatively movable members. The transducer includes an index grating supported on a movable carriage which rides on the scale and is held in engagement with the scale by a cantilever spring element. In order to insure readings accurate to 0.0001 inch, the housing is designed so that it holds the scale in close conformity with the flat mounting surface against which the housing is secured.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1975Date of Patent: June 28, 1977Assignee: Bausch & Lomb IncorporatedInventor: Helmut Welker

Patent number: RE29281Abstract: Measuring apparatus using the moire fringe concept of measurement to provide a precise digital numeric indication of displacement between two relatively movable members. The apparatus includes an accurately ruled grating or scale, a transducer head in the form of an index grating supported on a movable carriage and a transducer support housing. The scale is secured in a spar which is preferably mounted to the carriage of a machine tool such as a milling machine. The transducer support housing is mounted to the stationery part or bed of the machine tool and is provided with a cantilever spring element which holds the carriage in direct contact with the scale.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1975Date of Patent: June 28, 1977Assignee: Bausch & Lomb IncorporatedInventors: Richard H. Burns, Helmut Welker
