Patent number: 10382957Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure are directed toward methods, apparatuses and systems for operating at a fluid-maintenance site. In certain embodiments, the methods, apparatuses, and systems include a fluid filter, a sensor that provides parameters that characterize fluid flowing through the fluid filter, and a wireless interface circuit. The wireless interface circuit operates in a set-up mode and a normal-operation mode. In the set-up mode, the wireless interface circuit operates by communicating authentication data with a mobile data-processing device while the mobile data-processing device is proximate to the fluid-maintenance site. In the normal-operation mode, the wireless interface circuit operates by sending the parameters wirelessly, according to the authentication protocol, to a remotely-situated server via a wireless communication medium and a broadband connection.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2015Date of Patent: August 13, 2019Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Hemang R. Patel, Michael N. Cormier, Justin M. Mazzoni

Patent number: 9872584Abstract: Provided are media cartridges that have adjustable bypasses using linear movement, and systems and methods that use them. Aspects include an adjustable bypass filter cartridge where a treated stream and an adjusted non-treated stream combine prior to post-filtration and the percentage or ratio of treated the and the non-treated water is adjustable at the time of installation from the outside of the filter cartridge with a known or predictable level of bypass. Media cartridges comprise: an inlet in fluid communication with a feed chamber and an outlet in fluid communication with a mixing compartment; a media compartment containing a media; a bypass port in fluid communication with the feed chamber and the mixing compartment; and a bypass regulator that is adjustable by linear movement. Such cartridges maybe adjusted to meet the needs of a wide variety of end uses.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2014Date of Patent: January 23, 2018Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Justin M. Patent number: 8453849Abstract: Provided are an anti-microbial matrix and filtration systems containing the same. The matrix comprises a surface-modified inorganic component and a polymeric binder comprising particles having an irregular, convoluted surface. The surface-modified inorganic component comprises a reaction product of an anti-microbial component and an inorganic component. The anti-microbial component comprises a quaternary ammonium salt containing an epoxide group. A covalent bond is, for example, between the quaternary ammonium cation and a hydroxyl group of the inorganic component. The quaternary ammonium salt can be poly(methyldiallylamine epichlorohydrin). Further, the quaternary ammonium salt can have the formula according to I: (Formula I), wherein n is in the range of 5 to 24. The inorganic component can be diatomaceous earth. The polymeric binder can comprise ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW PE). Methods of making and using the same are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 2008Date of Patent: June 4, 2013Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Thomas J. Hamlin, Mark T.
