Abstract: Benzylidene cyclohexanone, cyclopentanone and acteone derivatives and therapeutic methods of using same are disclosed. The compounds are non-toxic and exhibit potent anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidation activity. Also, certain compounds of the invention inhibit glutathione S-transferase (“GST”), but do not irritate the gastrointestinal tract. Pharmaceutical compositions containing the compounds of the invention and pharmaceutically acceptable carriers are also disclosed.

Abstract: The invention deals with the derivatives of benzilidine having basic formula as follows (I): wherein X can be cyclohexanone, cyclopentanone, or acetone, while Y and Z can be either electron withdrawing, electron donating or steric group. Y may or may not be the same with Z. Methyl, ethyl, methoxy group or halogen were prefered in the experiment. The benzilidine cyclohexanone, benzilidine cyclopentanone, and benzilidine acetone derivates were found to be novel compounds showing anti-bacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities that enable them to be used for drug.

Abstract: This invention relates to chalcone derivatives represented by the following formula (1): wherein A represents a phenyl group, a quinolyl group or the like, W represents a vinylene group or the like, and R.sup.1 to R.sup.5 each independently represent a carboxyl, cyano, alkyloxycarbonyl or like group, or salts of the chalcone derivatives, and also to drugs containing them as effective ingredients. Abstract: N-(2-substituted alkyl)-N'[(imidazole-4-yl)alkylguanidines are provided by the reaction of a primary amine with benzoylisothiocyante to a benzoylthiourea derivative, followed by hydrolysis of this derivative to form the corresponding thiourea, converting this thiourea with methyliodide into an isothiourea and producing the desired compound by reaction of the isothiourea with aminopropylimidazole or aminoethylimidazole. The compound can be converted into an acid addition salt or the free compound obtained from such salt. The compounds are useful as the active ingredient in pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment of congestion, heart failure and some allergic conditions.
