  • Publication number: 20070151493
Abstract: A method for integrating a large-calibre gun on a ship, including connecting a turret having an armament of a lad gun with a calibre >127 mm in a modular configuration to an adaptor plate and a shock-absorbing mounting, and installing the turret on the ship so that an existing steel structure of the ship withstands increased recoil forces from the armament.

  • Patent number: 7178443
Abstract: A wedge-type breechblock is provided for a weapon having a barrel that recoils relative to a cradle, the barrel having a bore with an axis, and a breech plate. The breechblock includes a closing wedge for arranging in the breech plate such that the closing wedge can be displaced transverse to the axis of the bore. A pin-type carrier, through a control lever and a breech mechanism shaft, activates the closing wedge. An ascending curved track is located on a guiding device, and guides the pin-type carrier during a counter-recoil motion of the barrel from an intake region to a highest point, so that the control lever is pivoted during the counter-recoil motion of the barrel and the breech mechanism shaft is turned to move the closing wedge to an opened position.

  • Patent number: 7171886
Abstract: To seal a pipe mortar, a sealing element (3, 6) is inserted between the pipe (1) and the base (2), with the element elastically balancing out the axial relative movements between the pipe (1) and the base (2). The sealing element (3) is preferably prestressed, with the gas pressure supporting the sealing effect. The sealing element (3, 6) can be a U-shaped or L-shaped steel ring. In the U-shaped sealing element (3), the legs (3.1) are axially prestressed to the extent that the sealing ring (3) and the pipe (1) or the base (2) are pressed together to produce an adequate seal. In the L-shaped sealing element (6), the inside leg (6.1) produces the gas-tight connection when the pipe (1) and the base (2) are screwed together. A sealing lips (6.2) of the sealing ring (6) elastically absorbs changes in length between the pipe and the base that occur during firing.

  • Patent number: 6170187
Abstract: A rifled weapon tube (1), from which spin-stabilized projectiles (8) with driving bands (9) are fired. In order to reduce manifestations of wear on a driving band (9), it is known to stabilize a spin angle (&dgr;) occurring during the firing or to cut deeper rifling grooves (3) into an inside wall (2) of the weapon tube (1). Both options can be realized only within limits as the compatibility between weapon tube (1) and projectile (8) must be ensured. The invention provides for another option of reducing the wear on the driving band (9). Increasing the number of rifling grooves (3) on the tube inside wall (2) reduces the frictional stress that occurs on the driving band (9). This new type of design for the rifling groove flanks (5), formed between a groove bottom (7) of rifling groove (3) and a lands (4) between the rifling grooves (3), reduces the total wear volume on the driving band (9). In this case, the rifling flanks (5) extend nearly perpendicular to the rifling groove bottom (7).

  • Patent number: 5682011
Abstract: A spin-stabilized projectile includes a projectile body having a trailing end; a first circumferential groove provided in the projectile body; and a second circumferential groove provided in the projectile body between the first circumferential groove and the trailing end of the projectile body. A rotating band is received in the first circumferential groove and a sealing ring is received in the second circumferential groove. The scaling ring has a radial and an axial clearance of between 0.5 and 1 mm from the walls of the second groove.

  • Patent number: 5664359
Abstract: A weapon barrel includes a muzzle, a breech, a chamber at the breech and a rifling, formed of alternating lands and grooves, extending along an interior of the weapon barrel. The lands have a hardened surface to a depth of 0.3 to 0.5 mm. The hardened surface extends along a barrel length portion which includes the muzzle.

  • Patent number: 4278007
Abstract: A hand lever for operating the wedge-type breechblock of an artillery gun is disclosed. A breech operating shaft is placed near the breech ring of the gun and connected to the breechblock and is actuated through a drive by the hand lever. The drive couples shaft and hand lever upon actuation of the lever and otherwise automatically releases the coupling between shaft and hand lever resulting in dropping of the hand lever upon discontinuance of the actuation.
