  • Patent number: 6558144
Abstract: The present invention relates to a metal powder compression tool for forming compacts for sintering, including a first punch (15) adapted to compress powder located in a die (10). The clearance between the punch and the die is greater than the radial expansion of the punch under the desired compression effort, and lower than the mean size of the powder grain.

  • Patent number: 6367140
Abstract: A device for holding sintered cams during their binding on a tube by expansion of the tube, including, for each cam, two blocks intended for enclosing the cam in housings complementary to the cam contour. The dimensions of the housings are chosen so that the play between the housings and the largest cam within a predetermined tolerance range is as close to zero as possible by excess, the two blocks being provided to bear against each other whatever the dimensions of the cam within the tolerance range.

  • Patent number: 5564755
Abstract: A sintered metallic filtering element in the form of a porous metallic tube is provided with a connecting fitting by forming the tube with an internal surface in the form of an internal truncated cone of circular cross section at one end of the tube, the internal truncated cone having a vertex half angle .alpha. greater than zero. The connecting member of the invention includes a truncated cone shaped head of circular external cross section having a vertex half angle .alpha. which is the same as the vertex half angle .alpha. of the internal truncated cone of the tube. The head of the connecting member is disposed inside the porous metallic tube and cooperates with the internal truncated cone. The connecting member also includes a tubular extending member attached to the smaller end of the head, with the tubular extending member extending beyond the porous metallic tube.

  • Patent number: 5504995
Abstract: A process for fitting at least one metal piece, which has at least one cylindrical bore, around a metal tube, in particular a metal cam shaft, as used, for example, in an internal combustion engine. The process includes clamping the metal piece in the assembly unit and introducing the metal tube into the bore of the metal tube with one end of the tube bearing upon the retractable stop. After expansion of the tube to fix the one metal piece on the tube, and the retractable stop is retracted before any additional metal pieces are fitted to the tube.

  • Patent number: 5460776
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of producing connected sintered articles obtained by breaking a unitary preform. It is characterized in that:a) a preform is pressed from powdered metals while imprinting in it a superficial groove (3) located in a plane for the purpose of subsequent breakage,b) this preform is presintered in order to consolidate it mechanically, the preform however remaining brittle,c) it is optionally compacted by recompression,d) recesses for the members for the mechanical connection of the final parts are optionally machined in this preform,e) this preform is broken into at least two parts,f) final sintering is carried out,g) the articles are cooled. The invention is applicable in particular to the production of connecting rods and connecting rod covers or of annular articles with or without an undercut (broken in the axial plane).

  • Patent number: 5248523
Abstract: A method for coating an annular inclined surface of a part with a powder prior to sintering, in which a lower annular axial surface is provided below and extending the inclined surface of the part. Along the axis of the part, a central tool is arranged having a lower axial surface slidable relative to the lower annular axial surface and an annular inclined surface above the lower axial surface and facing the annular inclined surface of the part. The part and the tool define an annular gap which is closed at the bottom portion and which has an open annular upper end above the annular inclined surface and the inclined surface of the part. The annular gap is filled with a powder through the open upper end which is then closed, and the part with the lower annular axial surface and the central tool are then relatively displaced, causing the inclined surface of the part and the annular inclined surface to become closer and compress the powder against the annular inclined surface of the part.
