The server receives a message from Client A indicating one or more media types that Client A will accept in defined circumstances in a push to talk type session. When the server receives a message from Client B inviting Client A to establish a push to talk type session for one or more proposed media types, the server determines whether the media type(s) proposed by Client B are acceptable to Client A. If at least one proposed media type is acceptable, the server forwards the invitation to Client A with a list of the acceptable media types. Thereafter the session is established.

The watching client sends an expanded request for client data to the server. The expanded request contains additional information such as a text string, a picture, or a video/audio clip. The server extracts the additional information and sends it to the observed client. The observed client can then decide whether to authorize the watching client to receive the observed client's data based on the additional information.

The second server resolves the group identification into a set of group member identities and sends the identities in a response to the first access server. The first access server then sends Invites to at least some of the group members identified in the response.

The first terminal sends a floor request message to a PoC Server. The message may indicate, for example, that if a first media type is denied, the others should be denied; or that the granting or denial of the first media type should not affect the other media types. The message may also indicate other conditions and relationships. The PoC Server processes the request based on the indicated interrelationships and/or conditions, and grants or denies each media type.

According to the invention, the floor is managed depending upon information relating to the size of the media item, and may be managed depending upon other criteria as well. Managing the floor may include one or more of granting the floor, maintaining the floor, monitoring the floor, and releasing the floor. The floor may be denied, for example, if the media item is larger than a predetermined size, which size may be indicated as being within a range of sizes. The push to talk type service may be a general conferencing service.

The first node sends a subscription message such as a SIP SUBSCRIBE message to the second node indicating that the first node wishes to subscribe to event update notifications relating to at least one type of event for a plurality of remote nodes of the network that have a predetermined association with the first node or alternatively the second node. In response, the second node generates future event update notifications and sends the notifications to the first node when the event notifications meet the criteria specified in the subscription message.

Participant identification information is transmitted from the conference calling center to each of the participants. Audio signals received at an electronic device are interrogated to identify the participant that originated the audio signals (the active participant). The audio signals and/or a graphical representation of the active participant is output in a predetermined manner based on the identification of the active participant that originated the audio signals.

The transferred part may be a media type that is not supported or accepted by the first terminal. The PoC server sends a SIP INVITE message to the second terminal and indicates the part of the session to be transferred. The PoC server may send NOTIFY messages to the first terminal indicating the status of the transfer. If the transfer is accepted, the PoC server may send a confirmation to the first terminal, which may then send a re-INVITE message to the PoC server to remove responsibility for the transferred part of the session.
