  • Publication number: 20210178027
Abstract: This present invention relates to drug eluting polymers, including novel biodegradable drug eluting polymers, which are added to the surface of a medical device to treat device associated complications and to deliver drug locally around the device. Methods of making polymers, for example, drug-eluting polymers, polymer compositions, and materials used therewith also are provided. The drug eluting polymers are obtained from the polymerization of macromonomers made of a connecting moiety, a biodegradable moiety and a cross-linkable moiety that are liquids at a temperature of 10° C. to 40° C.

  • Publication number: 20190209331
Abstract: A method of manufacturing at least one component of a joint prosthesis, the method comprising creating a first database representing an anatomy of an articulating bone of a joint of a subject; accessing a second database representing a geometry of a generic prosthetic component being sized to fit around an outer articulating surface of the articulating bone of the joint of the subject; creating a third database representing kinematic data of the subject's joint; merging the databases within a three-dimensional image-based medium. The generic prosthetic component is attached to the outer articulating surface of the articulating bone of the joint creating a prosthetic articulating surface that is moved through the kinematic data of the subject through a bearing template thereby modifying the bearing template to create a kinematically appropriate bearing surface; and manufacturing the component of the joint prosthesis to have a geometry corresponding to the kinematically appropriate bearing surface.

  • Patent number: 10213313
Abstract: Femoral heads, mobile inserts, acetabular components, and modular junctions for orthopedic implants, e.g., hip replacement implants, and methods of using femoral heads, mobile inserts, acetabular components, and modular junctions for orthopedic implants are provided. Prosthetic femoral heads, mobile inserts, and acetabular components are provided that can alleviate soft tissue impingement, reduce implant wear, and/or reduce frictional torque. Modular junctions are provided that can minimize the incidence of loosening and micromotion that can occur at modular junctions of orthopedic implants.

  • Publication number: 20180318468
Abstract: Therapeutic polymeric materials, therapeutic polymeric materials containing medical implants and methods for making the same, and related materials are described. Methods of making medical implants containing additives antibiotics, therapeutic polymers, and materials used therewith also are described. Methods of spatially controlling additive/antibiotic concentrations, non-homogenous distribution of therapeutic agents in polymeric materials and therapeutic medical implants containing layered constructs of polymeric materials are provided. Therapeutic medical implants containing incorporated therapeutic agents in the polymeric materials, for example, antibiotics into polymeric total joint implants, are useful for delivery of the therapeutic agents into the surrounding mediums.

  • Publication number: 20170135610
Abstract: Systems and methods provide patient position information to a user. A patient positioning device is placed on a patient in a predefined location. The patient positioning device determines a relative patient position with respect to at least one known reference axis. The patient positioning device communicates patient position information including or with reference to the at least one known reference axis. The communicated patient position information allows the user to position the patient and/or a surgical tool using the communicated patient position information.

  • Patent number: 7776097
Abstract: The invention solves the problem of anchoring a prosthetic component into compliant, cancellous bone by a thin, preferably pure titanium, or a titanium-based alloy, perforated, hence hydraulically open, shell (1, 13), spaced apart from the second, non-perforated shell (2, 14). In most applications, dictated by the anatomical site of insertion, shells are approximately hemispherical in form, connected to each other at the equator. The solid shell may contain a further, articulating component of the joint, e.g. a polymer or a ceramic insert, or it may serve that function itself. One or both components of a joint prosthesis can be anchored according to the invention.
