Abstract: An inventory system configured for detecting and counting potentially retained surgical items within a body of a patient includes a tag configured to transmit a return signal including an electrical characteristic when energized, a signal generator configured to generate an energizing signal for the tag, an antenna operably coupled to the signal generator and configured to receive at least the return signal transmitted by the tag, a processor, and a memory. The memory includes instructions stored thereon, which, when executed by the processor, cause the inventory system to energize the tag by the energizing signal, receive the return signal from the tag by the antenna, and determine a presence of the beacon tag based on the electrical characteristic.

Abstract: An electrosurgical system includes an electrosurgical generator having a radio frequency source configured to operate in a plurality of modes and a controller configured to control the radio frequency source to output a radio frequency waveform corresponding to a mode from the plurality of modes. The system also includes a footswitch assembly coupled to the electrosurgical generator. The footswitch assembly includes a footswitch in communication with the controller. The footswitch is configured to output a footswitch activation signal to activate the radio frequency source. The footswitch assembly also includes a mode select button, which upon activation, is configured to instruct the controller to enter a mapping state during which the controller assigns an activation command for one mode from the plurality of modes to the footswitch.

Abstract: An emergency escape system with escape module suspended from a cable or the like along but unattached to the exterior of a multistoried building, such cable being powered by any suitable mechanism incorporating hoisting and pumping devices such as the ground unit described in co-inventor Cook's U.S. Pat. No. 3,750,686, or the winding drum and water pump of a fire truck or other emergency vehicle, such cable being passed around a pulley supported on the roof of the building, so as to raise the escape module and lower it with encapsulated escapees to a haven.
