An example method includes connecting a cementing adapter atop a casing head itself positioned atop a surface casing landed within a conductor pipe, connecting a drilling adapter atop the cementing adapter, connecting a blowout preventer to the drilling adapter, and drilling for and running production casing. The method also includes positioning a casing hanger at least partially within a bore of the cementing adapter to be immobilized therein to retain back pressure of cement within an annulus located between the production casing and the surface casing, cementing the production casing within the surface casing, and removing the drilling adapter and blowout preventer after running the cement, but typically prior to cement bonding.

Abstract: A grease tool lubricates a valve having an actuator assembly for moving a valve element of the valve. The tool has a housing with a piston carried in a bore. The housing is open for inserting and sealing a portion of the actuator assembly into the bore. A fill port in the housing allows grease to be introduced into the bore. A piston rod joins the piston and has external threads engaging internal threads of the housing, so that rotating the piston rod causes the piston to move axially. A lever is mounted to the housing for imparting rotation to the housing. A lock pin extends through a side wall of the housing to engage the actuator assembly to cause the actuator assembly to rotate in unison with the housing.

Abstract: A landing ring having at least one scallop groove formed on an interior of the ring. The landing ring interfaces with a fluted mandrel casing hanger such that the scallop groove aligns between flutes of the hanger. This alignment of the scallop groove of the landing ring with the fluted mandrel casing hanger provides sufficient clearance to allow a stabbing in of a cement tube for cement injection during cement topping operations or debris clean out down hole.

Abstract: Method and system for automatically forming a human-machine interface are provided. The method includes: defining, based on contents to be illustrated in the human-machine interface, a model object including at least one model component have a one-to-one mapping relationship with metadata in a database; establishing a model-view corresponding to the defined model object, where the model-view may include at least one model-view element each of which having a mapping relationship with one of the at least one model component; and analyzing the defined model object and the established model-view based on a predetermined syntax rule to form a model object configuration file and a human-machine interface configuration file, where the model object configuration file is adapted to provide mapping between the defined model object and the database, and the human-machine interface configuration file is adapted to illustrate the model object using the corresponding model-view. Workload may be reduced.

Abstract: A coal bed methane degassing tool is installed at the bottom of a first joint of production casing. As the casing is lowered into the well hole, the tool is fished to the top of the casing as more joints are added. The pressure at the tool may be recorded and logged. Any excessive pressure observed at the tool may be bled off by the tool automatically or manually. As more casing is tripped in, the tool is brought to the top. At the end of the run a log of formation pressure is established. Reservoir engineers can determine reserves in coal bed methane wells drilled and completed before the well is bled off and the tool is removed.

Abstract: A polarization element and a polarization-sensitive optical isolator are integrated to form an integrated VOA. A preferred embodiment uses a liquid crystal cell as the polarization element to which is attached an optical isolator core of a first polarizer, Faraday rotator, and second polarizer. Voltage on the liquid crystal cell electrodes controls the amount of polarized light from the liquid crystal cell passing through the first polarizer and light in the opposite direction is blocked. The integrated VOA can be mounted within a laser device package so that the power of the source laser diode on the output fiber can be controlled and yet the laser diode is protected from light undesirably entering laser device package through the output fiber.
