  • Publication number: 20210121355
Abstract: A modular artificial skeletal muscle (MASM) actuator having a plurality of dielectric elastomer units assembled in series or in parallel. A proximal anchoring member is connected to a proximal end of at least one proximal dielectric elastomer unit and is configured for attachment to a proximal anchor point relative to a user. A tension member has a proximal end attached to a distal end of at least one distal dielectric elastomer unit and a distal end configured for attachment to a distal anchor point relative to the user. A controller is configured to cause simultaneous contraction or expansion of plurality of dielectric elastomer units, which contraction or expansion causes displacement of the tension member. A plurality of MASM actuators may be attached to an exoskeleton attached about an ankle of a user and controlled for therapeutic purposes, such as for assisting pediatric patients with cerebral palsy.

  • Publication number: 20040167541
Abstract: The obstetrical vacuum extractor comprising a vacuum cup molded of a first, relatively rigid material, with a lip of a second, relatively soft material secured along the basal opening. An elongated hollow stem which may be coupled to a vacuum source communicates with the interior and, accordingly, the basal opening of the vacuum cup. The first, relatively rigid material of the cup is preferably substantially transparent so that the physician may readily monitor the condition of the fetal scalp throughout delivery.

  • Patent number: 3943596
Abstract: In the removal of trash and waste from beneath a carding machine the trash and waste is collected on support means positioned beneath the carding elements of the machine and a flow of air is created in a direction to transport the trash and waste on the support means to a waste collection zone by supplying pressurized air to a plurality of spaced nozzles arranged above the support means in such a manner that each of a plurality of preselected groups of rows of said nozzles is supplied with the pressurized air in turn and cyclically.
