  • Patent number: 5813123
Abstract: A motor chainsaw has a housing enclosing a motor with actuator and a saw chain. A braking device for the saw chain is positioned in the housing. The braking device has a brake drum and a brake band guided around the brake drum. The braking device has a brake lever connected to the housing so as to be pivotable about a first axis of rotation for moving the brake band from a release position into a braking position. A return kick brake for actuating the braking device is provided. The return kick brake has a ready position and an actuated position in which the brake band is in the braking position. The return kick brake has a hand protection grip, a control lever, and a return kick brake spring for loading the control lever. The control lever, when the return kick brake is moved from the ready position into the actuated position, pivots the brake lever into the braking position.

  • Patent number: 5480009
Abstract: The device for braking an electric drive motor of a hand-held working tool has a safety brake for an immediate stopping of the working tool and an independent mechanical brake for coasting the working tool to a stop after switching off the drive motor. The mechanical brake acts on a rotational part connected to the drive motor and is activated when a switch element for activating the drive motor is released.

  • Patent number: 5272813
Abstract: The invention is directed to a portable handheld work apparatus such as a motor-driven chain saw. The work apparatus includes a housing having a forward end wall, a rearward end wall defining a plane and a top wall extending between the end walls. A handle is mounted on the top wall for holding and guiding the work apparatus. A work tool is arranged on the forward end wall and a drive motor is mounted in the housing for driving the work tool. A holding lug is provided on the rearward end wall and is pivotable between a rest position wherein the holding lug is recessed in a recess formed in the rearward end wall and an in-use position wherein the holding lug is outside of the recess. The holding lug defines an eyelet through which an operator can pass a rope for holding the work apparatus by attaching the same to a belt or the like thereby freeing the hands of the operator.

  • Patent number: 3958680
Abstract: A motor chain saw with a driving sprocket wheel adapted to be driven by a motor through the intervention of a centrifugal clutch, or the like. A safety clutch is arranged in the driving connection between the motor shaft and the driving sprocket and disengageable by a release mechanism. The safety clutch includes at least one disengageable follower member for interconnecting the two pertaining clutch members while being coaxially arranged with the centrifugal clutch and being located adjacent thereto. The safety clutch is arranged on that side of said centrifugal clutch which faces toward the driving sprocket while being located in the driving connection between the centrifugal clutch and the driving sprocket.
