  • Publication number: 20090302867
Abstract: A method for ascertaining and monitoring the fill level of a medium in a container the method utilizes a fill-level measuring device, wherein, according to the technique of time-domain reflectometry, high-frequency measuring signals are guided via at least one measuring probe in the direction of the medium, reflected on at least one interface of the medium as wanted echo signals or on disturbance locations as disturbance echo signals, and received. A current echo curve is formed from a produced, reference echo signal, wanted echo signals and disturbance echo signals, wherein, at least from a first disturbance echo signal and the reference echo signal, which are caused in a measurement-inactive region of the fill-level measuring device, a base point is located in the current echo curve, and wherein the fill level is ascertained from the distance between the base point and the wanted echo signal formed in a measurement-active region of the fill-level measuring device.

  • Publication number: 20090013778
Abstract: A method for checking proper functioning of a fill-level measuring device working according to the travel time principle. For this purpose, in predetermined or selectable time intervals (ta), a current measured value curve at a current fill level (hactual) is ascertained; on the basis of the current measured value curve, a current wanted echo signal is determined. Subsequently, on the basis of the current wanted echo signal, an expected value (E) for quality of a wanted echo signal at at least one predetermined fill level (hdesired) is ascertained. The ascertained expected value (E) for quality of the wanted echo signal at the predetermined fill level (hdesired) is compared with a predetermined critical value for quality, and an error condition is diagnosed, when the ascertained expected value falls below the critical value for quality.

  • Publication number: 20070109143
Abstract: In order systematically to register individual, or a combination of, adverse influences on, and in order to be able better to estimate, service life or ability of a measuring field-device to function, at least one relevant influencing variable, preferably, however, a plurality thereof, is/are evaluated. In such case, Oin addition to a measured value [[(24)]] for a process variable, further variables [[(25) and (26)]] are registered by corresponding sensors mounted on, or in, the measuring field-device and conditioned in analog format in suitable operating circuits, preparatory to registering them digitally with the same A/D-converter [[(21)]] that registers the measurement signal [[A]] for the process variable. Multiplexer [[(22)]] permits selection of the desired input signal, which is then processed further with the aid of a microprocessor [[(23)]]. Then, the combined effect of the different influencing variables is determined and a remaining, probable service life calculated.

  • Patent number: 6856142
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for determining and/or monitoring filling of a product or the position of the boundary surface between two media or phases in a container. The device comprises a signal generating unit that generates high-frequency measuring signals, an injection unit and a surface waveguide, wherein the measuring signals are injected into the surface waveguide by means of the injection unit and directed toward the filling product via the surface waveguide. The device also comprises a receiver/evaluation unit, which directly or indirectly determines filling of the product or the position of the boundary surface in the container during the running time of the measuring signals reflected on the surface or boundary surface of the filling product. The invention aims at providing a device which is configured in such a way that parasitic voltages are effectively diverted. This is achieved in that the surface waveguide is connected to a frame potential by means of a coupling.
