  • Patent number: 7149972
Abstract: The invention relates to a multimedia device, which detects at least one information item in an audio and/or video data stream processed by the multimedia device, saves the detected information items as a function of a weighting consisting of the time of occurrence of an information item and at least one selection criterion and displays follow-up information relating to the information item selected by a user on an output unit of the multimedia device.

  • Publication number: 20060270344
Abstract: The reliable and controlled allocation of network elements particularly medical sensors (2) to a network (4) without prior configuration of the wireless sensors or of the network administration system can be carried out using an allocation unit (1) for allocating network elements (2) to a wireless network (4), which allocation unit (1) comprises a transmitter which transmits, in a user-controlled manner, a code to a first network element (2), which code causes the first network element (2) to transmit its ID together with the code (encoded ID) so that the latter can be received by a second network element (3) which allocates the first network element (2) to its network (4).

  • Patent number: 6859142
Abstract: Theft protection of electronic apparatuses connected to a bus system is implemented in a manner particularly suitable for use in a digital home network based on the IEEE 1394 standard. At least one of the apparatuses in the network is equipped with a monitoring unit switchable between an activated and a de-activated state. In the activated state, the monitoring unit monitors the occurrence of a bus reset which is generated particularly upon removal of an apparatus from the network. After occurrence of such a reset, the monitoring unit compares the list of all apparatuses on the bus with a list generated and stored before the reset. When determining differences, an alarm is triggered which can be reproduced particularly by means of the apparatuses which are present, such as, for example, televisions and hi-fi equipment.

  • Publication number: 20040168166
Abstract: A network system supports distributed applications that execute on networked devices. The system provides a uniform modeling and implementation method and system that are particularly suited to use in digital in-home networks. For example, the invention may be applied to support the interoperation of various digital consumer electronics devices, such as TV, receivers, tuners, digital storage, and a personal computer interconnected by a home network. The method and system help to realize the potential of networked devices by providing for rich interoperation that combines the functionalities of different devices and allows for expansion and upgrade by providing a uniform scheme for controlling the interaction among the attached devices.

  • Publication number: 20030050037
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for dynamic assignment of mobile terminals (E1, En) to one of a plurality of base stations (B1, B2, Bm) in an in-home digital network. The method is characterized in that it is executed autonomously in distributed manner at each base station (B1, B2, Bm). To this end, the base stations measure the connection strengths between them and the terminals located in their range (E1, En) and communicate the measured values thus obtained in a broadcast to all the other base stations. All the base stations may then calculate the assignment of terminals to base stations on the basis of the global information obtained using a predetermined algorithm, for example involving assignment of the terminal to the greatest connection strength taking account of hysteresis and a threshold value.

  • Publication number: 20030037151
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of handling utilization conflicts in digital networks, particularly in in-home digital networks. Such a conflict occurs where a second application seeks to access a resource for a second objective, the resource already being used by a first application for a first objective. In such cases the method searches for modifications to the actual requests for network components that will permit achievement of the first objective and the second objective simultaneously. If the first objective, for example, is to provide sports news, and for this purpose the first request seeks to record sports news on a video recorder at a certain time, and a second application requests the video recorder at this time, this conflict may possibly be resolved by recording another program containing sports news at a later time to resolve the first objective.
