  • Publication number: 20040062873
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for coating a metallic strip. The strip or optionally, the strip sections produced from said strip in the subsequent process, is/are first coated with at least one anticorrosion layer—according to an alternative form of embodiment, this can be left out—and then with at least one layer of a paint-like coating containing polymers. After being coated with at least one anticorrosion layer or after being coated with at least one layer of a paint-like coating, the strip is divided into strip sections. • Publication number: 20040054044
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for coating a metallic surface with a composition. This method is characterised in that the composition contains the following in addition to water: a) at least one organic film former containing at least one polymer which is soluble in water or is dispersed in water; b) a quantity of cations and/or hexafluoro complexes of cations selected from the group comprising titanium, zirconium, hafnium, silicon, aluminium and boron; and c) at least one inorganic compound in particle form with an average particle diameter of 0.005 to 0.2 &mgr;m, measured with a scanning electron microscope. The clean metallic surface is brought into contact with the aqueous composition and a film containing particles is formed on the metallic surface. This film is then dried, the dry film having a layer thickness of 0.01 to 10 &mgr;m. The invention also relates to a corresponding aqueous composition.

  • Publication number: 20030185990
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for coating a metal strip for use in the automotive, aircraft or aerospace industry. The strip or the strip sections produced on the basis thereof in a later step is/are first coated with at least one anticorrosive coating and then with at least one coating of a paint-like polymer-containing coating. The strip, once coated with at least one anticorrosive coating or once coated with at least one coat of a paint-like coating, is divided up in strip sections. Said coated strip sections are then formed, joined and/or coated with at least one (further) paint-like coating and/or coat of paint. The paint-like coating is achieved by coating the surface with an aqueous dispersion that contains, in addition to water, at least one UV-crosslinkable water-soluble and/or water-dispersible resin, at least one wax as the forming additive, at least one photoinitiator, and at least one corrosion inhibitor.

  • Publication number: 20030051772
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing coated metal surfaces at a coating speed of at least 25 m per minute during the application of a pre-treating agent to a cleaned and/or pickled metal surface. The inventive method is characterized by applying at least one pre-treating agent to at least one surface of a metal body after cleaning and/or pickling the metal surface to be treated. At least one lacquer layer is applied to a part of the pre-treated surface, the coating produced only by the pre-treating agent and not by the lacquer being used as the treatment layer instead of a priming or pre-treatment layer. The invention further relates to a method for producing coated metal surfaces at a coating speed of at least 25 m per minute during the application of a pre-treating agent to a cleaned and/or pickled metal surface. The inventive method is characterized by applying at least one pre-treating agent to at least one surface of a metal body after cleaning and/or pickling the metal surface to be treated.

  • Patent number: 6468597
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a plastic film on metal surfaces, and a treatment liquid for producing this film. The treatment liquid, prior to wetting the metal, contains 0.1 to 50% (by weight) of a non-volatile film-forming mixture of resins, and 99.9 to 50% of a water-miscible, water-soluble or water solvent, and forms a film on the metal. The treatment liquid, just prior to wetting the metal, has a temperature of 10-100° C., and the metal surface has a temperature higher than the treatment liquid by at least 20° C. and a temperature in the region of 30 to 700° C. The treatment liquid is adjusted in such a way that its constituents do not substantially coagulate, settle or decompose, and such that the molecular weight distribution and the viscosity of the treatment liquid does not substantially change during use.

  • Patent number: 4756933
Abstract: A process is disclosed for applying to sheet steel an electrically insulating layer which permits mainly a satisfactory welding of the sheets when they have been blanked and stacked. The sheet steel is contacted with a treating liquor which contains a resin that is adapted to be diluted in an alkaline aqueous medium and also contains a fluoride of a polyvalent metal, particularly aluminum fluoride, in an amount of 0.1 to 80 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight resin. The treating liquor is subsequently dried and the sheet is subjected to a stress-relieving annealing, if required. In preferred embodiments of the invention a treating liquor is employed which additionally contains borates and/or dispersed particles comprising silicate and/or polymers and which is applied by means of rollers and is dried at 120.degree. to 350.degree.
