  • Patent number: 5944514
Abstract: A process for feeding bulk material onto a belt of a rotary hearth furnace, which has hoods that cover the hearth belt in such a manner as to form a ring. The bulk material is deposited on a transport device at a layer thickness proportionately dependent on the distance to the rotary hearth center. The transport speed of the transport device is set at a certain value; the surface of the bulk material is smoothed; and then the bulk material is distributed at a constant layer height over the entire width of the hearth belt.

  • Patent number: 5729569
Abstract: A submerged arc furnace with an open slag bath, having a vertically movable frame which is arranged above the furnace which is closed by a cover. An electrode mount and an electrode filling device are arranged on the frame. A platform is provided on which the frame is supported via at least three regulating cylinders. The platform, which is arranged above the furnace cover, is configured as a maintenance platform on which, for each electrode, there is provided a sealing unit which has components for the horizontal and vertical sealing of the free surfaces between the electrodes and the electrode passage openings of the cover.

  • Patent number: 4702461
Abstract: An electro furnace for metallurgic operations has its top connected to a vertically extending cylinder, into which a charge pipe leads at an oblique angle. A ceramic plug glides in the cylinder in piston like fashion for selective opening and closing the opening from said charge pipe. Any burden and ore mixture will therefore fall freely from the charge pipe whenever the plug is shifted up to open the gate.

  • Patent number: 4587659
Abstract: A feed through structure for passing electrodes through a furnace cover into the interior of an electro furnace such as an electric arc or reduction furnace includes thin walled, water cooled hollow cylinders made of electrically conductive material and being provided in apertures in the cover; electrodes are passed through cylinders and electrically conductive hollow copper bridges interconnect all of said hollow cylinders to the extent they pertain to different phases; these bridges are provided in pairs for separately connecting the inside and outside ends of the hollowed cylinders.
