Abstract: Hair treatment compositions containing (a) an alkyl polyglycoside of the formula IR.sup.1 O--[G].sub.p (I)wherein R.sup.1 is an alkyl or alkenyl radical having from 6 to 22 carbon atoms, G is a sugar unit having 5 or 6 carbon atoms and p is a number from 1 to 10; (b) a protein hydrolyzate having an average molecular weight in the range from 500 to 10,000 and, (c) a monomeric cationic surfactant provide hair with hold, body, stylability, strength and bounce.

Abstract: A process for reducing the content of free formaldehyde and formic acid in nonionic and anionic surfactants is provided. The process comprises adding an amine compound selected from the group consisting of a) alkanolamines, b) aminocarboxylic acids and c) oligopeptides to a surfactant comprised of a member selected from the group consisting of nonionic and anionic surfactants. The amine compound is preferably selected from the group consisting of a) an alkanolamine containing 2 to 15 carbon atoms, b) an aminocarboxylic acid containing 2 to 8 carbon atoms, and c) an oligopeptide with an average molecular weight of 500 to 5000. The nonionic and anionic surfactants preferably contain 1 to 100 ethylene oxide units in the form of at least one polyethylene glycol chain. The amine compound is preferably added in a quantity of 50 to 6000 ppm, based on active substance of said surfactant.

Abstract: A process for reducing the residual content of free alkylating agent in aqueous solutions of cationic surfactants comprising aftertreating the solutions with at least one of the following amine compounds:a) ammonia;b) tertiary amine corresponding to the general formula (I) ##STR1## in which R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 independently of one another represents linear or branched, optionally hydroxy-substituted alkyl radicals containing 1 to 18 carbon atoms or an alkenyl radical containing 8 to 18 carbon atoms;c) amino acids containing 2 to 8 carbon atoms; andd) oligopeptides having an average molecular weight of about 500 to about 5000,at an elevated temperature.

Abstract: Adducts of ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide with saturated and/or unsaturated C.sub.8-22 fatty alcohols having an average degree of alkoxylation n of 1 to 10, and more especially 1 to 6, are particularly suitable as thickeners for aqueous surfactant solutions when the adducts have a narrow homolog distribution compared with the products obtained by standard methods.

Abstract: Nitrogen-free thickeners in aqueous surfactant solutions comprising polyethoxylates of mono- and/or polyunsaturated C.sub.12 -C.sub.22 fatty alcohols having an average degree of ethoxylation of 2 to 5, which also contain 1 to 2 terminal propylene oxide groups attached by condensation instead of the corresponding number of ethylene oxide groups. The products may also be used in admixture with dissolved inorganic electroltye salts and with polyethoxylates of saturated fatty alcohols. These surfactant solutions are useful in the formulation of personal hygiene preparations such as hair shampoos, foam baths, shower baths, handwashing pastes and the like.

Abstract: Clear, aqueous liquid preparations of sodium lauryl sulfate and myristyl sulfate comprising from 5 to 20% by weight of sodium lauryl sulfate and/or myristyl sulfate, from 10 to 30% by weight of a nonionic surface-active ethylene oxide adduct having an HLB-value of from 12 to 18, from 10 to 20% by weight of a polyol containing from 3 to 6 carbon atoms and from 2 to 6 hydroxyl gropus or a polyethylene glycol, and from 30 to 75% by weight of water, are distinguished by low cloud points and are suitable for use as a surfactant component in the production of oral hygiene products such as toothpastes.

Abstract: A detergent base showing good compatibility with the skin in the form of a fluid concentrate containing from 0.4 to 0.6 mole/kg of an alkyl ether sulfate based on a special mixture of fatty alcohol ethoxylates which is present partly as magnesium salt and partly as sodium salt, from 0.03 to 0.08 mole/kg of an oleic acid diethanolamide and/or linoleic acid diethanolamide and from 1.4 to 1.6 mole/kg sodium ions in the form of sodium chloride and/or sodium sulfate. The product is suitable for use in cosmetic hair and body shampoos.

Abstract: A hair care preparation containing a hair conditioning effective amount of a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sup.1 is a C.sub.12-16 -n-alkyl;R.sup.2 is a C.sub.1-4 -n-alkyl;is a C.sub.1-4 -hydroxyalkyl;R.sup.4 is a C.sub.1-4 -n-alkyl or a C.sub.2-4 -hydroxyalkyl;A is an inorganic or organic acid anion; andn is the valence of said anion.

Abstract: Phosphonic acid esters obtained by reacting organophosphonic acids corresponding to the general formula R--PO.sub.3 H.sub.2, in which R is preferably an alkyl group containing from 6 to 18 C-atoms, with from 1 to 10 moles and preferably with from 1 to 5 moles of ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide. These esters are useful as additives to hair treatment preparations, preferably to shampoos based on anionic surfactants and, preferably, ampholytic or betaine surfactants for improving the wet combability of hair. They are added in amounts between 0.1 to 10% by weight to hair treatment preparations, and between 1 and 5% by weight to shampoos.

Abstract: Block-copolymeric polyglycol ethers of long-chain 1,2-epoxides and ethylene oxide corresponding to the following general formulaR.sup.1 O[C.sub.n H.sub.2n O].sub.x [C.sub.2 H.sub.4 O].sub.x.y --R.sup.2in which one of the groups R.sup.1 or R.sup.2 is an alkyl or alkoxyalkyl group containing from 1 to 22 carbon atoms and the other is hydrogen, n is a number of from 6 to 22, x is a number of from 2 to 20 and y is a number of from 1 to 100, are useful as solution promoters for the preparation of clear, stable, aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic preparations containing oil-soluble perfume oils. Preferably, R.sup.1 is an alkyl group, for example a methyl group, and R.sup.2 is hydrogen.
