  • Publication number: 20200198036
Abstract: A method directed to gear cutting tools and gear cutter job consolidation resulting in a single cutter capable of cutting a plurality of different members of a part family. The method comprises a multi-step approach comprising a first step of defining a temporary master. A second step creates a virtual master which is especially well-suited for accommodating the requirements of the jobs in the consolidation variety. A third step determines cutting depths and optimized machine settings for all consolidation jobs using the virtual master.

  • Publication number: 20200030899
Abstract: A method of machining a tooth flank of a gear with a gear machining tool. The method comprises rotating the tool and bringing the tool and the tooth flank into contact. Relative movements are provided between the tool and the gear to traverse the tool across the tooth flank along a path whereby the path produces a tooth flank geometry of a form which, when brought into mesh with a mating tooth flank under no load or light load to form a tooth pair, provides a motion graph curve comprising a sinusoidal portion (62, 89, 91, 90, 63) and a parabolic portion (92).

  • Patent number: 10471527
Abstract: A skiving tool comprising a cutter head (2) having a plurality of cutter blade mounting and positioning slots (8) arranged spaced, preferably equidistant, about the periphery (7) of the cutter head with the blade slots, and hence the cutting blades (4), preferably oriented perpendicular to the axis of rotation (A) of the cutter head. Alternatively, the blade slots may be inclined from the perpendicular orientation by less than 50 degrees, preferably less than 20 degrees, thereby forming a conical shaped cutter. Additionally, the blade slots may be positioned to extend radially from the cutter head axis whereby the longitudinal axis of a cutter blade will intersect the cutter head axis, or the blade slots may be radially offset from the cutter head axis. The blade slots may have any cross-sectional shape such as square, rectangular or those types having generally V-shaped seating surfaces (10) comprising a pair of angled mounting surfaces (12, 14) each less than 90 degrees.

  • Publication number: 20190201992
Abstract: Cutting blade pressure angle changes or corrections in power skiving cutters (20) can be realized without the need tor a tool geometry change. An axial shift (26) of the blade reference point (24) will shift the existing involute on the blade profiles (22, 23) into a different radial location. An accompanying shift (AR) of the reference involute profile (30) by approximately the same amount and in the same direction will re-establish the relationship between work gear and cutter. The resulting work gear geometry has the same radial location of the slots, with the same slot width and the same tooth thickness but with a changed pressure angle.

  • Publication number: 20190134727
Abstract: A method wherein a cutting or grinding chamfering tool (25) is guided along the face width of a gear (12, 23, 52) through one tooth slot (8) (e.g. from heel to toe) while it contacts the topland corners (10, 1 1) of the respective concave and convex tooth flanks of adjacent teeth (2, 4). The tool moves to an index position, the gear is indexed to the next tooth slot position and the tool moves through the tooth slot (e.g. from the toe to the heel). The cycle is repeated until all topland corners are chamfered.

  • Publication number: 20190022779
Abstract: A gear cutting tool wherein each cutting blade group includes two differently positioned but identical cutting blades (41, 40) such as an one outside and one inside blade. The inventive blade arrangement only requires a single type of blade (30) in order to simultaneously cut the convex and the concave tooth flanks of a gear as well as the root fillet and root bottom portions of tooth slots. The cutter system allows radial adjustment of the outside cutting blade and the inside cutting blade independently of one another. Additionally, inside and outside cutting blades may be exchanged with one another.

  • Patent number: 9782848
Abstract: A motion which creates an end relief and which is integrated into the plunging cycle of non-generated bevel gears. The tool, after feeding to the correct tooth forming position in case of non-generated gears, is swung sideways out of cutting or grinding contact with the slot instead of along a withdraw path which is identical to the plunge path but opposite in direction.

  • Publication number: 20170252843
Abstract: An axial hob (14) with cutting teeth (16) which are arranged around a cylinder (19) in a helical pattern. The cutting front (18) is perpendicular to the helix. The re-grindable blade thickness is oriented in the direction of the helix lead direction. While the tool rotates, the active cutting front changes from one blade to the next which, depending on the hand of rotation, is an advanced or retracted position. However, the rotation will not give the individual blades a chip removing motion but only position the following blade in an advanced or retracted location, such as in a gear slot to be machined.
