    Abstract: The invention relates to a compact low-pressure discharge lamp comprising a discharge vessel 14 having electrodes and supply leads 30, and having a mp cap 12 assembled from a cap 16, housing 18 and mounting plate 24 with a ballast arrangement. In this case, the mounting plate 24 with the ballast arrangement is fitted in the interior of the lamp cap housing 18. The mounting plate 24 also has terminals 26 for the electric connection of the supply leads 30. According to the invention, in this case the supply leads 30 are connected to the electric terminals 26 of the mounting plate 24 via an electrically conducting spring element 28 in each case.

    Abstract: An electric lamp may be formed with a lamp bulb, with lead wires leading out from the lamp bulb and with a base which incorporates a connection region made of electrically insulating material and provided with electrical connections. The connection region includes a cavity into which at least one lead wire of the electric lamp projects, and at least one electric connection of the base is formed by a contact lug which projects into the cavity in an electrically conducting manner with a lead wire of the lamp. A shaped part consisting of heat-resistant, elastic material is located in the cavity of the connection region. The shaped part has one or more passages for each lead wire of the electric lamp. The shaped part sits on a contact lug and abuts the wall delimiting the cavity in a press fit, and the lead wires pass through the shaped part.

    Abstract: The invention relates to an electric lamp based without cement, for instation in a reflector which is provided with an opening (17a) and made in the reflector wall (17). The lamp has a metal/plastic base which has a metal holder part (12) in which the bulb (10) of the lamp is fixed, a metal support sleeve (13) which is connected to the metal holder part (12), and a plastic base part (14) which is provided with the electrical connections (15) of the lamp and in which the support sleeve (13) is anchored. The lamp base has a plurality of reference lugs (14a), lying in a plane, which are used for holding and for correct installation of the lamp in the reflector. According to the invention, the plastic reference lugs (14a) are covered by metal cover tabs (13b) so that reference lugs (14a) are screened against the electromagnetic radiation generated by the lamp, or alternatively the reference lugs (43b) are made of metal.

    Abstract: The lamp according to the invention has a metal holder part 2 with a rece in which the pinch seal 10 of the lamp bulb 1 is clampingly fixed with the aid of a plurality of support tabs 21a, 21b, 22a, 22b, 23a, 23b. In order to reduce the danger of damage to the pinch seal 10 when the lamp is being mounted on its base, the pinch seal 10 is tapered is graduated fashion toward the base, and all the support tabs 21a, 21b, 22a, 22b, 23a, 23b that act upon the pinch seal 10 are oriented toward the broad sides of the pinch seal 10, which is substantially rectangular in cross section, while the narrow sides of the pinch seal 10 are located in the holder part 2 without touching it. The narrow sides of the pinch seal (10) are retained in the holder (2) spaced from the holder. Guide ribs (50a, 50b) are formed on the pinch seal (10) positioned off-center, and laterally relatively staggered.

    Abstract: To provide a strain relief in a base for an electric lamp, adapted for coction to an external electrical energy source by at least one connection cable (6a, 6b) extending through and into the base, the base (2) is formed with a strain relief arrangement which includes a resilient sleeve (11) having an inner wall surrounding the at least one connection cable and, within the base bottom portion (9, 9'), a sleeve reception structure (9a) positioned inwardly of the bottom of the base, which includes a sleeve reception bore (10a, 10b) receiving and surrounding the resilient sleeve (11a, 11b) and exerting circumferentially uniformly, radially inwardly directed forces on the resilient sleeve. This decreases the diameter of the sleeve so that the inner wall thereof engages, clamps and squeezes the deformable insulation of the at least one connection cable and, also, can interengage or interlock therewith. The bottom portion (9) and the top portion (7) of the base are snapped together.

    Abstract: To permit rapid adjustment of a holder structure (4) within which a singlnded pinch-sealed light source, for example a halogen incandescent lamp (1, 2) is retained, to a positioning or locating element having an optical reference surface (17a) to accurately align the light emitting element (2) of the light source with respect to an optical system, for example a reflector, a tubular adjustment sleeve (10) is provided into which the holder structure is fitted. The tubular adjustment sleeve has an essentially cylindrical portion (11) and a slightly conically converging portion (12) or an inwardly extending rim or ring (12') to permit rotational, axial and tilting adjustment of the holder structure to which the light source (1) is coupled with respect thereto. The tubular sleeve is formed with a laterally projecting flange (14, 14a) formed with a plane, burr-free engagement surface (14b) which fits against an auxiliary plane, flat reference surface (18b) on the positioning or locating element (15).

    Abstract: To improve shock and vibration resistance and heat dissipation of an attaent element (1) coupling the pinch seal (3) of a halogen incandescent lamp (2) to a plastic base (6), the attachment element is formed of two identical half-sections, surrounding the pinch seal in the shape of a cuff (4) and connected to a flange or skirt by an intermediate heat dissipation and shock absorbing portion (7, 11, 12, 13, 14). Preferably, the intermediate portion forms a connecting section, which can be bent into U or double U configuration off the upper region of the flange or skirt portion (8a, 8b), to provide a large heat radiating surface while retaining the pinch seal of the lamp between undulating sheet-metal portions. Preferably, the attachment element is made of unitary sections of high-quality specialty steel.

A base plug element, formed as a solid body, for example of highly heat-resistant plastic material, is located projecting from the base sleeve, and positioned remote from the bulb. The essentially cylindrical solid body (29) is formed with a circumferential collar of smaller outside diameter, and separated from the remainder of the solid body by a circumferential ring groove.

    Abstract: The bulb (1) of an incandescent lamp, such as a vehicular headlight, is mted on a base structure (3) without cementing, by means of a securing element (2) having two shell-shaped halves (4). Each half (4) has a lug (5) on one side and bent tabs (6) on its other side which engage the lug (5) of the other half (4) to form a cuff around the pinch seal of the lamp and to connect the lamp to the base structure (3), which may be made of plastic. Each half (4) has a flange (8) with a projecting rim (10) whose curvature matches that of a tubular base structure (3). The projecting rim (10) has perforations (9) so that, if a plastic base structure (3) is used, the rim (10) can be connected to the base structure (3) by high-frequency heating, which causes the plastic to permeate the perforations (9) and harden therein.

    Abstract: To permit insertion of a lamp-socket combination into a fixture which includes a plate-like portion (P), for example a printed circuit board, a plastic socket (2) is provided which is formed with a recess (6), preferably a through-bore, into which two separating walls (8) extend, which are resiliently outwardly deflectable and have inwardly extending locating ridges (9) which can, after deflection radially outwardly upon insertion of the lamp (1), snap back against the base (4) of the lamp to engage over locating projections (5) formed on the base of the lamp. Terminal strips (7) are inserted in the base at the opposite sides of the separating walls (8), which defines chords of the cylindrical opening (6), the opening providing access for weld-connection of the electrical terminal leads (3) from the lamp to the terminal strips (7).

    Abstract: To permit introduction of a halogen incandescent lamp into a reflector, in ealed relationship thereto, a plastic end portion (2c) of the base (2) of the lamp is secured to a metal sleeve, for example of steel, which is telescopically connected to an adjustment cap (2a) in which the bulb (1) is seated. After adjustment of the position of the bulb, so that the filaments will emit light in a predetermined pattern with respect to the base, the adjustment cap and the sleeve are welded together. The plastic portion includes a groove (9) in which a sealing ring (10) for example of silicone rubber is placed, the plastic element including therebeyond a positioning or seating flange (11). The plastic end portion, thus, can readily be assembled with a glass reflector, the sealing ring (10) providing for a moisture tight seal against, for example, a glass reflector.
