  • Patent number: 6073443
Abstract: A hydrostatic transmission (HST) including a hydraulic pump is contained in a housing having upper and lower housings. An input shaft of the hydraulic pump projects outward from the upper housing. A cooling fan is provided on an upper end of the input shaft. A conduit is disposed within an area between the fan and the upper housing. The conduit extends between first and second couplings and is in communication with an oil sump formed in the housing. A pumping device, which rotates with the input shaft, is disposed within the second coupling for forcedly circulating oil between the conduit and the sump. Alternatively, a reservoir is disposed on an outer wall of the housing forming a second oil sump. A level of oil in the second oil sump is lower than a level of oil in the oil sump formed in the housing. The second oil sump communicates with the atmosphere whereas the oil sump formed in the housing is separated from the atmosphere. A siphon communicates both sumps with each other.

  • Patent number: 6007449
Abstract: A differential locking system of an axle driving apparatus wherein left and right axles are rotatably supported within a housing consisting of an upper half housing and a lower half housing. The inner ends of the axles are facing each other and are rotatably inserted within a differential input gear. An engaged plate member is disposed at the right of the differential input gear. Engaged recesses of the differential input gear and engaged recesses of the engaged plate member are connected with each other. A pair of differential pinions are pivoted within the differential input gear, perpendicular to the axles. Both sides of each differential pinion are engaged with differential side gears fixed around the right and left axles, respectively. Pin passing holes are bored in the right differential side gear. A thrust collar is disposed on the right axle outside of the right differential side gear. A shifter fixing the differential locking pins is axially slidably disposed around the thrust collar.

  • Patent number: 5701739
Abstract: An axle drive unit for facilitating maintenance, such as replacement or cleaning of an oil filter for filtering operating oil. The present invention uses the interior of the housing of the axle drive unit as an oil sump. The axle drive unit has a hydrostatic transmission for driving axles and operating oil supply means for supplying the operating oil to the transmission. A plug-in bore is open at the side wall of the housing opposite to a suction port of the operating oil supply means. The oil filter is inserted into the housing through the plug-in bore and connected to the suction port. The plug-in bore is covered with a cover member for freely opening and shutting the bore. Such construction enables a worker, when inspecting or replacing the oil filter, to remove the cover member from the side wall of the housing while the axle drive unit is being loaded on a vehicle. The oil filter can simply be inserted or removed through the open plug-in bore.

  • Patent number: 5438831
Abstract: A pair of axles and a hydrostatic transmission which drives them are housed in a common housing. The hydrostatic transmission comprises a hydraulic pump, with a movable swash plate, which drives a hydraulic motor with pressurized oil. Adjusting the angle and direction of slant of the movable swash plate controls the volume and direction of flow of the pressurized oil. The angle and direction of slant of the movable swash plate are controlled by a rotating member and a shaft housed within the common housing. The rotating member has a contact portion which abuts against an abutting member when transmission is operating in reverse. When the abutting member abuts against the contact portion, a detector operates a switching unit, allowing an alarm to be sounded or the operating device of the vehicle to be disengaged automatically when the vehicle is running in reverse.

  • Patent number: 5377487
Abstract: An axle driving apparatus which houses a hydraulic non-stage transmission in a casing comprised of at least two casing members and coupled by a substantially flat coupling surface formed therebetween. The casing also houses an output shaft of the hydraulic non-stage transmission which is offset in parallel to the coupling surface. This construction allows for simple manufacture and maintenance of the hydraulic non-stage transmission and axles, provides for a smaller downward projection of the casing thereby reducing interference with obstacles on the ground, improves sealing capability of the casing when a braking unit is attached to one axial end of the output shaft, and reliably bears the thrust of the hydraulic motor.

  • Patent number: 5323890
Abstract: A differential-locking positive clutch (3) for disabling a vehicle differential gearing (2) is operated by a brake-actuating device (4) for a vehicle-braking brake (1) through a connecting mechanism (34) including a spring (6). The spring may store an actuating force for a clutch-operating member (5), which is preferably composed of a slidable shaft, when interlockable members of the clutch are not in alignment with each other. The connecting mechanism preferably includes a movable first engaging member (7) which is engaged to the clutch-operating member such that a movable second engaging member (48) operated by a clutch-operating device (45) may also be engaged to the clutch-operating member so as to permit an operation of the locking clutch independently of the brake. Both of a safe stopping of vehicle at its straight travel condition and a reduction of the vehicle braking distance are successfully attained.
