Patent number: 6561687Abstract: The shape of a horizontal cross section Sho including a reference axis Ax on a reflective surface 14a is set to a curved shape for focusing and reflecting light from a light source 12a closer to the reference axis Ax within the horizontal cross section Sho. The shape of a vertical cross section including the axis in the direction of emitting reflected light at each of the points on the horizontal cross section including the reference axis Ax on the reflective surface 14a is set to a curved shape for reflecting the light from the light source in substantially parallel to the axis in the direction of emitting the reflected light in a central reflective area near the lateral reference axis Ax. The shapes of peripheral reflective areas 14a2 on both sides of the central reflective area are respectively set to curved shapes for focusing and reflecting the light from the light source 12a closer to the axis in the direction of emitting the reflected light.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1999Date of Patent: May 13, 2003Assignee: Koito Manufacturing Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hideaki Satsukawa, Yasuyuki Amano, Hiroshi Kawashima

Patent number: 6406171Abstract: A vehicle indicator lamp includes a reflector having a diffusing and reflecting function that increases the lamp fixture efficiency by eliminating the loss of reflected light. The structure includes a reflector 14 having a reflective surface 14a which diffuses and reflects light forward from a light-source bulb 12 arranged in a lamp fixture reference axis Ax, and a transparent lens 16 in front of the reflector 14. The reflective surface 14a is formed such that the inner peripheral edge region 14a1 thereof radiates reflected light in a direction substantially parallel to the lamp fixture reference axis Ax, while the outer peripheral edge region 14a2 thereof radiates reflected light in a direction near the light fixture reference axis Ax. Consequently, the diffused and reflected light from the reflected surface 14a is not blocked by either the light-source bulb 12 or the standing wall 14c of the reflective surface outer peripheral edge, thereby substantially eliminating the loss of reflected light.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2000Date of Patent: June 18, 2002Assignee: Koito Manufacturing Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hideaki Satsukawa, Hiroshi Kawashima, Yasuyuki Amano

Patent number: 6224246Abstract: A signal lamp for vehicles has a reflector that acts to diffuse light from a light source within the lamp. The reflector is made up of multiple diffusing reflective elements having a reflecting region that reflects light emitted from the light source in a direction of an optical axis of the lamp. A lens is positioned in front of the reflector. The reflecting region of each diffusing reflective element is varied, such that an area ratio of the reflecting region for portions of the reflector with a high reflective illuminance is less than other portions having lower illuminance.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1998Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Assignee: Koito Manufacturing Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kazunori Natsume, Hideaki Satsukawa

Patent number: 5708519Abstract: A hologram fitted to a rear window glass is irradiated with light from a regenerative light source to produce a holographic image to ensure the effective operation of a high mount stop lamp and to simultaneously prevent light from dazzling the driver of a following vehicle. The high mount stop lamp is provided with a hologram disposed on the inside surface of a rear automotive window glass, and a regenerative light source for regenerating the holographic image by irradiating the hologram. Part of the regenerative light source is buried in a recess in a rear parcel shelf of the automobile. A shielding wall is fitted to a part of the periphery of the regenerative light source so as, together with the rear window glass, to surround the regenerative light source to shield the light directed to the front of the automobile. The shielding wall is formed, for example, by folding up part of the decorative panel of the rear parcel shelf in the form of a wall.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1996Date of Patent: January 13, 1998Assignee: Koito Manufacturing Co., Ltd.Inventors: Norimasa Yamamoto, Hideaki Satsukawa, Koichi Sakakibara

Patent number: 4868725Abstract: A combination lamp in which the lamps forming the combination lamp emit respective red and amber colors as required by applicable official regulations when turned on, but in which the entire combination lamp appears amber when the lamps are turned off, thereby improving the external appearance of the lamp. The combination lamp includes a lamp for emitting red light and a lamp for emitting amber light in which the outer lens of the lamp for emitting red light is colored amber and the inner lens thereof is colored red.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1988Date of Patent: September 19, 1989Assignee: Koito Manufacturing Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroaki Sakagawa, Hideaki Satsukawa

Patent number: 4722023Abstract: A lamp assembly is disclosed as adapted for use as a supplemental high mounted stop lamp for motor vehicles. A lamp body has a paraboloidal reflector for producing parallel rays of light from a source mounted therein. For reducing the axial dimension of the lamp body to a minimum, a generally planar lens is mounted at its open front end, with the lens having a multiplicity of prism elements formed on its outer surface for internally reflecting the parallel rays in a direction at a considerable angle to the axis of the reflector. Additional embodiments are disclosed for imparting both lateral and vertical divergence to the light beam emitted, and for producing two vertically overlapping light beams.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1985Date of Patent: January 26, 1988Assignee: Koito Seisakusho Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kenji Arima, Syoji Kobayashi, Hideaki Satsukawa
