    Abstract: A glass substrate of a display panel onto which an organic electroluminescence (EL) element or the like is formed is sealed by affixing the glass substrate and a sealing glass via an adhesive therebetween. During this process, a pressure is applied between the glass substrate and the sealing glass so that a gap between the affixing surfaces achieves a target value and the adhesive is cured. The pressure is changed over time based on conditions such as the viscosity of the adhesive so that quick and precise sealing by the adhesive can be achieved.

    Abstract: After a gate line (11), a TFT (1), and a data line (30) are formed, a riblike protective insulation layer (32) which coats the data line is formed on a substrate (10) serving as the element substrate of an active matrix type color liquid crystal display device or an organic EL display device. A color filter layer (42) on a transfer film (40) is press-bonded on this substrate (10) with a roller (46) moving in the extensional direction (columnar direction) of the protecting insulation layer (32). The advancement of the transfer of a color filter in the columnar direction makes it possible to bring the substrate and the color filter in contact without gaps while expelling the gas out of a pixel space in the advancement direction. During the step of forming a color filter, the protecting insulation layer (32) protects the data line (30) from the treatment liquid etc. An organic light emitting element layer is arranged in the pixel space to form an organic EL display device.

In addition, a connecting rod for connecting the movable member with the armature is supported so as to sway relative to a coil spring and a saucer spring, whereby the vibration of the movable member is prevented from being transmitted to the shaft portion of the armature.

The buffer plate (300) is aligned such that an opening (302) therein overlaps each display area, and such that a lattice member (301) thereof overlaps the region where the seal material is disposed. The panel body (110) is pressed and heated from outside through the buffer plate (300), thereby heating and curing the thermosetting seal material. Because the display area overlaps the opening of the buffer plate, pressing of this area when the seal is cured can be prevented, thereby preventing the substrate from flexing at the display area of the display panel 110 provided with no spacers.

    Abstract: The response speed of liquid crystal is enhanced by reducing a distance d between a longer side (42) of a display electrode and a linear portion (51) of an orientation control window (50). On the other hand, a larger orientation control window (50) (corresponding to a smaller distance d) results in undesirable decrease in contrast of the liquid crystal. Further, the effect of increase in response speed is diminished when the distance d is smaller than the range of 25 &mgr;m to 30 &mgr;m. Therefore, the distance d is preferably in the range of 25 &mgr;m to 30 &mgr;m, and the window (50) preferably has a width of 7 &mgr;m. An LCD configured to satisfy the above conditions allows improvement in contrast and response speed.
