  • Patent number: 7798002
Abstract: An automatic ultrasonic examination device includes an ultrasonic test instrument, a robot arm, and a control device. The ultrasonic test instrument includes an ultrasonic probe to send ultrasonic and detecting reflected waves while being in contact with the spot-welded portion, and an ultrasonic test instrument main device connected to the ultrasonic probe to convert the reflected wave detection signals received from the ultrasonic probe into test information. The control device includes a real center location computing unit to identify a real center location of the spot-welded portion with reference to pieces of test information obtained around a preset tentative center location of the spot-welded portion, and a determination unit to check quality of the spot-welded portion with reference to test information obtained at the real center location.

Abstract: An automatic ultrasonic examination device 1 includes an ultrasonic test instrument 2, a robot arm 4, and a control device 5. The ultrasonic test instrument 2 includes an ultrasonic probe 2a to send ultrasonic and detecting reflected waves while being in contact with the spot-welded portion, and an ultrasonic test instrument main device 2b connected to the ultrasonic probe 2a to convert the reflected wave detection signals received from the ultrasonic probe 2a into test information. The control device 5 includes a real center location computing unit 54 to identify a real center location of the spot-welded portion with reference to pieces of test information obtained around a preset tentative center location of the spot-welded portion, and a determination unit 56 to check quality of the spot-welded portion with reference to test information obtained at the real center location.

  • Patent number: 6769522
Abstract: A strong lightweight front cover 11 that prevents distortion of a sliding contact surface when the front cover and impeller shell are welded together is provided. The front cover 11 has a radial flange part 44 and an axial flange part 42 that extends from an outside edge of radial flange part 44. The radial flange part 44 has a sliding contact surface 44a on an axially facing surface thereof for sliding against a friction facing 76. The axial flange part 42 has a connection part 51 that connects to the radial flange part 44 and a welding part that is connected by welding to a pump impeller. The various portions of the front cover 11 have differing rigidities and thicknesses.

  • Patent number: 6180908
Abstract: An electric discharge device 9 is provided for removing material from a workpiece 5 to form a through hole 5b therein. The electric discharge device 9 is designed to maintain the pressure of processing liquid after the hole 5b extends through the workpiece 5 to thereby stabilize the electric discharge during the hole forming process. Basically, the electric discharge device 9 includes a movable discharging electrode 10, an arc voltage discharging device 11, a processing liquid supply mechanism 13 and an indexing mechanism 15. The arc voltage charging device 11 supplies current at a predetermined voltage between the discharging electrode 10 and a workpiece 5. An electrode reciprocating mechanism 12 moves the discharging electrode 10 towards and away from the workpiece. The processing liquid supply mechanism 13 is fluidly coupled to an internal bore 10a of the discharging electrode 10 for supplying processing liquid inside the discharging electrode 10.

  • Patent number: 6036439
Abstract: The invention relates to a boss formed on a front cover. The boss is formed by deforming a portion of a front cover material, at a central portion thereof, such that the boss is formed unitarily with the front cover. The boss is further deformed to form a central indentation on an end surface thereof. Further, the cylindrical sides of the boss are machined to form an alignment surface.

  • Patent number: 6024538
Abstract: An impeller shell 40a of a torque converter includes a main portion 41, a connection portion 42 and a stepped portion 43. The main portion 41 has a curved inner peripheral surface 41a carrying impeller blades, and is opposed to a turbine 5. The connection portion 42 has a cylindrical form larger in diameter than an outer periphery of the inner peripheral surface 41a, and is fixed to a front cover 3. The stepped portion 43 couples an end of the main portion 41 near an engine to an end of the connection portion 42 near a transmission. A corner portion formed of the inner peripheral surface 41a and a surface 43a near the engine has a radius set to 4 mm or less by preliminary forming by a press and subsequent finish forming by a press.
