  • Publication number: 20090013673
Abstract: A muffler for a small engine includes a first expansion chamber 12 for exhaust gas having an exhaust gas inlet 11 being connected to an exhaust gas outlet of the engine, a second expansion chamber 15 being partitioned from the first expansion chamber 12 by a partition plate 14 and being communicated with the first expansion chamber 12 through a first communicating hole 13 on the partition plate 14, and a third expansion chamber 18 being partitioned from the second expansion chamber 15 by the partition plate 14 and being communicated with the second expansion chamber 15 through a second communicating hole 16 on the partition plate 14 and having an exhaust gas outlet 17. A first heat resistant mesh catalyst 19 is disposed on the exhaust gas inlet 11. A first exhaust gas purifier 20 composed of a heat resistant knit fabric 20a coated with a catalyst for purifying the exhaust gas is disposed on the communicating hole 13 on the partition plate 14.

  • Patent number: 6789644
Abstract: In the engine muffler including a first expansion chamber 12 of the exhaust gas having an exhaust gas inlet aperture 11 connecting to an exhaust gas outlet of the engine, a second expansion chamber 14 having an exhaust gas outlet aperture 13, at least one first exhaust gas purifier 15 coated wit a catalyst to purify the exhaust gas purifier provided with innumerable numbers of small holes, a wall side of said second expansion chamber 14 to which the engine is not installed is formed to a double-wall construction of walls 14a and 14b with a predetermined distance, further, the double-wall is packed with a heat insulating material to improve the purification efficiency, heat insulation and sound elimination. Heated muffler wall is decreased. It is also possible by applying a detachable construction to take out the first exhaust gas purifier outside the wall for replacement or cleaning.

  • Patent number: 6250075
Abstract: An engine muffler is provided which comprises a first expansion chamber for exhaust gas which includes an exhaust gas inlet to be connected to an exhaust port of an engine, a second expansion chamber which includes an exhaust gas outlet, a first exhaust gas purifier in which a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas is coated on at least a concave surface of a concave base body which has a plurality of vent holes passing through the concave surface, the first exhaust gas purifier being disposed in the first expansion chamber such that the concave surface faces the exhaust gas inlet, and at least one second exhaust gas purifier in which a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas is coated on a base body including many pores, the second exhaust gas purifier being disposed between the first expansion chamber and the second expansion chamber. The engine muffler is obtained simply by improving a muffler used for a small-sized engine. The engine muffler has an extremely great effect of purifying exhaust gas.
