  • Patent number: 4800863
Abstract: An internal combustion engine is provided with a mechanically operated supercharger in kinematic connection with a crankshaft the engine. The engine is provided with a system for controlling the effect of supercharger, such as a by-pass control valve. A timer is provided for detecting a predetermined short period after the engine is switched to an acceleration condition from the preceding deceleration condition with a fuel-cut, or after a moderate acceleration has begun. The system for controlling the effect of the supercharging is so controlled that the effect of supercharging is weakened during that period.

  • Patent number: 4602600
Abstract: Electric current supply to an actuator is ON-OFF controlled in such a manner that fuel supply quantity is made to be zero on condition that an engine rotation speed reaches a rotation speed less than a predetermined one in a low rotation region and a starter switch is turned OFF, whereby overrun of an engine and reckless run of a vehicle are prevented when a rotation sensor is in an abnormal condition.

  • Patent number: 4579096
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for a diesel engine includes a housing and a plunger which slides in a bore in the housing, with a high pressure chamber defined at an end of the plunger. The plunger rotates with the crankshaft and reciprocates so as to pump fuel from the high pressure chamber to the engine cylinders, under the control of an electromagnetic valve. This valve includes a pilot valve which selectively vents the high pressure chamber, which is operated to open and close by selective supply of electrical energy thereto, and a balance member which is driven by a fluid force arising when the pilot valve is thus opened and a relatively small flow of fuel is released from the high pressure chamber, and which when so driven releases a relatively large flow of fuel from the high pressure chamber.

  • Patent number: 4522168
Abstract: In a diesel engine having a rotational angle sensor for detecting the engine speed, when the rotational angle sensor is in an abnormal state, a fuel-cutting operation is performed. A first fuel-cutting operation is immediately performed so as to indicate to the driver that an abnormal state exists. However, subsequent fuel-cutting operations after restarting of the engine are delayed as compared with the first fuel-cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 4520780
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for a diesel engine includes an input shaft rotated with the crankshaft, and a housing and a plunger which slides in a bore formed in the housing and is coaxial with the input shaft, with a high pressure chamber being defined at an end of the plunger between it and the bore. The plunger rotates with the input shaft and reciprocates so as to pump fuel at high pressure from the high pressure chamber to the engine cylinders, under the control of an electrically actuated electromagnetic valve, comprising a solenoid coil, which selectively vents the high pressure chamber according to the control of a control means, so as to provide fuel injection in appropriate amount to the diesel engine. There is provided a means for determining whether or not the voltage across the solenoid coil of the electromagnetic valve, when supply of power thereto changes from the ON to the OFF condition, rises higher than a certain value, or not.

  • Patent number: 4502439
Abstract: In a controlling device wherein operating conditions in the respective parts of a Diesel engine are detected by means of sensors, injection timing of fuel is calculated from the results detected, and at the same time a control valve provided in an oil pressure circuit for controlling the timing is controlled by means of electronic control in such that an actual injection timing of fuel obtained by a timer position sensor provided on a fuel injection pump comes to be close to the injection timing calculated, a vehicle which can attain whose minimum traveling by such a way that any abnormality in the timer position sensor is decided in response to a magnitude of output signals from the timer position sensor, at the same time, any trouble or accident of a timer oil pressure circuit is decided on the basis of a difference between the calculated injection timing and the actual injection timing, and the fuel is injected after either decreasing a prescribed quantity from a target quantity of injection obtained by ca

  • Patent number: 4471736
Abstract: An ignition timing control system for an internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders in which at each of different load conditions determined by the operating conditions of the engine the ignition timing for each cylinder is periodically retarded to cause a nonknocking ignition and the resulting background vibration levels detected by a knock sensor are stored in a memory. During the normal operation, the vibration level detected by the knock sensor with respect to each cylinder is compared with the corresponding background vibration level stored under the same load condition to detect the presence of knocking and thereby to determine the proper ignition timing.

  • Patent number: 4442813
Abstract: The ignition timing of an internal combustion engine is controlled to a fixed value during starting or for a period just after starting. However, if the engine is in a high-speed operating condition, the above control for fixing the ignition timing is interrupted and the ignition timing is controlled to change depending upon the change of the operating conditions of the engine.

  • Patent number: 4440141
Abstract: Energizing interval of an ignition coil, which is basically determined on the basis of the rotational speed of an engine, is corrected by adding thereto an extension amount which is either a function of the rotational speed of the engine or a given upper limit value at the rotational speed of the engine when accelerating condition is detected. Thus, the ignition coil is supplied with a primary winding current for a desired interval even during acceleration so that sufficient ignition voltage will be produced to properly ignite air/fuel mixture in engine cylinders. The extended energizing interval is then reduced stepwise to provide normal energizing interval during engine operations other than acceleration.

  • Patent number: 4436073
Abstract: Additional increment of the fuel feeding rate of an internal combustion engine during starting and for a period of time after starting is determined depending upon the warm-up condition of the engine and furthermore upon the rotational speed of the engine. • Patent number: 4430973
Abstract: The cross-sectional area of a bypass passage around a throttle valve in an intake passage of an internal combustion engine is additionally increased by a predetermined value only when the throttle valve changes from an open position to the fully closed position during a heavy load condition or during a transitional condition from the heavy load condition to a light load condition. Therefore, the flow rate of the intake air at deceleration is not additionally increased during a light load condition, since that would cause the operation of the engine to be stable during deceleration.

However, if the engine is not in the idling condition, the ignition timing is controlled, as usual, depending upon the operating condition of the engine, even when the predetermined signal is applied to the service input terminal.

  • Patent number: 4421085
Abstract: A spark advance angle is calculated depending upon the flow rate of air sucked into the engine or the pneumatic pressure in the intake manifold and upon the rotational speed of the engine. When the actual engine temperature exceeds a predetermined value higher than the engine temperature at the normal operating condition of the engine, the calculated spark advance angle is corrected to decrease.

  • Patent number: 4401086
Abstract: An air-fuel ratio control device includes an oxygen concentration detector which issues a signal indicating a lean mixture, hereinafter known as a lean signal, and a signal indicating a rich mixture, hereinafter known as a rich signal. An electronic control unit is provided for converting the lean and rich signals to a signal indicating injection control, hereinafter known as an injection control signal. The level of the injection control signal is incrementally changed by a first value when the output signal of the oxygen concentration detector is changed from the rich signal to the lean signal. The level of the drive control signal is incrementally changed by a second value, which is larger than the first value, when the output signal of the oxygen concentration detector is changed from the lean signal to the rich signal.

  • Patent number: 4392471
Abstract: The amount of fuel supplied to the engine is corrected in accordance with an air-fuel ratio correction coefficient. When the engine is in a predetermined first operating condition, the correction coefficient is calculated depending upon the detected concentration of a predetermined component in the exhaust gas, and thus the above correction is performed by closed-loop control. When the engine is not in the first operating condition, the correction coefficient is fixed, and thus the above correction is performed by open-loop control. An average value of the calculated correction coefficient is calculated only when the engine is in a predetermined second operating condition. An initial value of the air-fuel ratio correction coefficient when closed-loop control is resumed is determined to be the calculated average value.
