A space between the inner and outer filters is provided to accommodate accumulation of the filtered-out oil with a valving arrangement provided in the area of oil accumulation that is operative in response to a pressure differential when the regeneration phase of operation is initiated to concurrently discharge the accumulated oil.

    Abstract: A force transfer mechanism including a force lever through which an input force is transmitted to an output member with mechanical advantage only after the output member encounters sufficient resistance to overcome a friction connection between an input member and the output member indicative of the input member having moved from a retracted position to an operative position. A control piston including a control piston diaphragm is attached to the inside wall of the main valve body. A balance piston including a balance piston diaphragm attached to the inside wall of the main valve body. A plurality of first and second radially extending fins carried by the balance piston and the inside wall of the main valve body, respectively. A protective member interposed between the balance piston diaphragm and the radially extending fins to prevent wave distortion of the balance piston diaphragm and preclude increase resistance to movement of the main piston.

An exhaust valve rod having a valve tip facing the air supply valve and fitting the air supply passage and has an exhaust air bore, one end opens at the valve tip and the other end opens at the exhaust chamber. The control piston including a control piston diaphragm fixed to the main valve body and fixed to the control piston. The balance piston includes a balance piston diaphragm which is fixed to the main valve body and also is fixed to the balance piston main body.

    Abstract: A pressure control valve for railway vehicles having a variable control mechanism for adjusting the gain of the output pressure to input pressure by controlling the effective area ratio on opposite sides of a piston. A balance diaphragm disposed on one side of the piston and a control diaphragm disposed on the other side of the piston. A plurality of first radial fins carried by the piston and a plurality of second radial fins carried by the body of the control valve. The ends of the first fins are placed between the ends of the second fins so that the edges form a slant surface. Thus, at least one of the diaphragms is supported by the slanted surface of the first and second fins. A manual adjusting mechanism for varying the position of the piston of the valve for changing the ratio of the effective areas.

    Abstract: An equalizer discharge valve for use on a railroad air brake system includes a valve housing having an equalizer chamber formed therein above a brake pipe chamber and separated by a piston, diaphragm configuration. The diaphragm is sealed on the outer circumference by the connection to the housing and on the inner circumference by the connection to the piston. A connecting passage formed in the piston has a check valve disposed therein such that fluid pressure can only flow from the equalizer chamber to the brake pipe chamber. An exhaust valve, disposed between the brake pipe chamber and an exhaust chamber, vents the brake pipe chamber when opened as corresponds to selected venting of the equalizer chamber fluid pressure. A back pressure chamber and piston configuration is formed above the equalizer chamber such that fluid pressure from the exhaust chamber can be communicated thereto to counterbalance the force on the piston exerted from the brake pipe side during an exhaust operation.

    Abstract: In a self-lapping type control valve device, a check valve is provided by means of a seal at the interface of the control piston diaphragm and a recess in which the diaphragm is connected to the valve body, the seal being effective to isolate a control chamber on one side of the control piston from a constant pressure chamber on the opposite side when the control piston is actuated in response to a reduction in the control chamber fluid pressure to initiate a brake application. This seal is displaced from a ridge at the opening of the recess with which the diaphragm is also engageable when actuation of the control piston occurs in response to a relatively large reduction of the control chamber pressure.

A plug, which may be positioned to connect selected passages, is placed within the sleeve in the hole. Either the contacting surfaces between the hole and sleeve or the rubbing surfaces between the sleeve and plug are tapered. A spring, seated on the base of the body or a plug flange, exerts upward pressure on the sleeve to assure tight contact between adjacent surfaces to eliminate fluid leaks.

    Abstract: A diaphragm type valve device comprising a housing having a pair of valve chambers separated by a diaphragm piston and connected to respective fluid pressure input ports, oppositely disposed valve seats fixed in the housing in facing relation to each side of the diaphragm piston and connected to respective output ports, a pair of valve members reciprocably disposed in a central bore in the diaphragm piston and being axially biased in opposite directions by a spring compressibly installed in the central bore between the valve members, one or the other of the valve members being seatable on one or the other of the valve seats when the diaphragm piston is axially displaced by dominating pressure acting on one or the other side thereof, and stop rings concentrically fixed in the central bore adjacent the respective ends thereof for limiting axial displacement of said valve members by the spring to a spaced-apart distance somewhat greater than the fixed axial distance between the valve seats.
