Patent number: 6666728Abstract: A divided connector has an auxiliary connector (40A) displaceably mounted in a frame (20). The auxiliary connector (40A) is held in a semi-locked state by resilient locks (27) on the frame (20). When female and male connectors (F, M) are fitted to each other, the auxiliary connector (40A) is held by unlock preventing portions (52) of the mating connector that prevent the resilient locks (27) from being deformed in unlocking direction, and is connected with a mating side prior to the other auxiliary connector (40B). When this connection is completed, the resilient locks (27) are released and deform in unlocking direction to unlock the auxiliary connector (40A). The auxiliary connector (40B) is subsequently connected while displacing the auxiliary connector (40A) to a back side with respect to the connecting direction.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2002Date of Patent: December 23, 2003Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Hideshi Tachi, Yasushi Okayasu, Kiyofumi Ichida

Patent number: 6638108Abstract: A connector has an auxiliary housing (10) with cavities (11) and locks (14) cantilevered into the cavities (11). The locks (14) deform into deformation permitting spaces (S) during insertion of terminal fittings (12) into the cavities (11). The locks (14) resiliently return to an undeflected condition to engage locking holes (12a) in terminal fittings (12) after insertion to proper depth. Deformation restricting portions (58) are integrally provided in an accommodation recess (53) of a housing main body (50) for accommodating the auxiliary housing (10). The deformation restricting portions (58) enter the deformation permitting spaces (S) for the locks (14) as the auxiliary housing (10) is accommodated into the accommodation recess (53), thereby preventing the locks (14) from inadvertently undergoing an elastic deformation.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2001Date of Patent: October 28, 2003Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventor: Hideshi Tachi

Patent number: 6623286Abstract: A connector housing (10) has supporting walls (14) and support shafts (21) project in from the inner side surfaces of supporting walls (14). A lever (30) has arms (32) disposed inwardly of the supporting walls (14). Bearing holes (33) formed in the arms (32) are mounted rotatably on the support shafts (21). The arms (32) try to move wider apart upon the engagement of cam grooves (34) on the arms (32) with cam pins (Mp) on a mating connector (M). However, the arms (32) are displaced in directions to move the bearing holes (33) from the projecting ends toward the base ends of the support shafts (21). Therefore, engaging areas of the bearing holes (33) and the support shafts (21) are not reduced.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2002Date of Patent: September 23, 2003Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventor: Hideshi Tachi

Patent number: 6478636Abstract: A female terminal fitting has a wall member which is not weakened as a result of cutting away bending regulating members therefrom, these bending regulating members preventing the excessive bending of a resilient contacting member. Anterior and posterior bending regulating members 26F and 26R are formed by cutting away a portion of a fitting member 11. These bending regulating members 26F and 26R prevent a resilient contacting member 20 firm bending excessively. The anterior bending regulating members 26R are formed on a base wall 13, and the posterior bending regulating members 26F are formed on side walls 14. These bending regulating members 26F and 26R are formed on differing walls. Consequently, compared to the case where both bending regulating members 26F and 26R are formed on a single wall, the opening area formed by cutting away the bending regulating members is smaller on each wall, and accordingly the strength of the walls is maintained.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2000Date of Patent: November 12, 2002Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Yasumitsu Makita, Kiyofumi Ichida, Hideshi Tachi

Patent number: 6386916Abstract: The invention prevents terminal fittings from vibrating within cavities. Female terminal fittings (15) are inserted into cavities (13), these female terminal fittings (15) being retained by lances (23). Next, a retainer (30) is attached to an anterior end of a terminal housing (11), regulating members (33) thereof entering bending spaces (26), thereby regulating the bending of the lances (23) and doubly retaining the female terminal fittings (15). Simultaneously, base member contacting members (37) formed on the regulating members (33) enter opening grooves (28) in base walls of the cavities (13) and press base faces of connecting members (16) of the female terminal fittings (15) upwards. These connecting members (16) are gripped between the base member contacting members (37) and ceiling faces of the cavities (13). In addition, anterior contacting members (38) make contact with anterior faces of the connecting members (16) and push the female terminal fittings (15) back towards the posterior.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2000Date of Patent: May 14, 2002Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Hideshi Tachi, Kiyofumi Ichida

Patent number: 6354866Abstract: Connecting members 28F and 28R pierce conductors 11 in a state whereby plate faces of these connecting members 28F and 28R are approximately at a right angle with respect to the length-wise direction of the conductors 11. Consequently, if a pulling force is exerted on flat cables 10A and 10B along the length-wise direction of the conductors 11, the connecting members 28F and 28R will not cause edges of slit-shaped piercing locations 35 to split. The piercing locations 35 of the connecting members 28F and 28R (locations where the rigidity has decreased due to their having been pierced) are provided along the length-wise direction of the conductors 11 in a location that is clamped between the connecting members 28F and 28R and a base 22 (the rigidity of these locations does not decrease due to piercing). As a result, if a bending force is exerted on the flat cables 10A and 10B this bending force is absorbed at the clamping locations, and does not reach the piercing locations 35.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2000Date of Patent: March 12, 2002Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Teruaki Hasegawa, Hideshi Tachi
