Abstract: A traversing device for stabilizing the yarn path of a thin and uniform flat fiber bundle without causing any trouble, e.g. entanglement of single fibers, and ensuring a good winding appearance of the winding package of fiber bundle, and a yarn path guide for stabilizing the yarn path without causing any trouble, e.g. entanglement of single fibers. The yarn path guide for guiding a traveling yarn comprises a guide roll and a guide roll supporting member wherein the supporting member has a rotating shaft at a position twisted at a right angle to the rotating shaft of the guide roll. The yarn path guide is arranged such that the guide roll is inclined with respect to the yarn path through rotation of the supporting member about the rotating shaft in response to variation of the yarn path and the fiber bundle is guided automatically in the yarn path direction.

  • Patent number: 6743392
Abstract: An apparatus and method for producing a spread fiber bundle using a fiber-spreading device composed of a group of rollers and a base body reciprocated to be repetitively brought into contact with and kept away from a running fiber bundle, and a method for producing a prepreg. Fiber bundle can be stably and efficiently spread even in the case where the fiber bundle to be spread are filaments having a high elastic modulus such as carbon filaments or where the carbon fiber bundle conveying speed is higher.

Date of Patent: June 1, 2004
    Assignee: Toray Industries, Inc.

  • Patent number: 6094791
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus, in which a reinforcing fiber bundle consisting of a plurality of paralleled single fibers is or a plurality of mutually paralleled reinforcing fiber bundles respectively consisting of a plurality of paralleled single fibers are driven to run through a plurality of rolls while being bent to open the fiber, and in which the opened reinforcing fiber bundle is impregnated with resin to produce a prepreg, comprising vibrating at least one of the rolls in the axial direction of the roll, to open the reinforcing fiber bundle(s), pressing the reinforcing fiber bundle(s) to the peripheral surface of a roll located immediately downstream of the vibrating roll without vibrating the roll, and bringing the opened reinforcing fiber bundle(s) into contact with the peripheral surface of the non-vibrating roll with a contact length of not less than twice the contact length of the reinforcing fiber bundle(s) on the vibrating roll, for retaining the opened state of the rein
