Abstract: Novel benzoxazole compound having, at the 2 position, a group bonding through a carbon atom having no or one hydrogen atom and introduced with a chlorine or bromine atom at the 5 position. The compounds are key intermediates useful for preparing 2-amino-5-nitrophenol derivatives which are useful as intermediates for synthesis of industrial materials, reducing agents, antioxidants, cyan-image-forming couplers and the like.

Abstract: A silver halide photographic light-sensitive material comprising a support having provided thereon at least one photographic layer including at least one silver halide emulsion layer, whereinat least one silver halide emulsion layer contains silver halide grains whose average value of the diameter corresponding to the projected area of a group of silver halide grains that take 40% of the total projected area of whole silver halide grains present in said silver halide emulsion layer is at least 1.5 .mu.m andat least one photographic layer contains at least one compound capable of imagewise releasing a fogging agent or a precursor thereof or a development accelerator or a precursor thereof corresponding to a quantity of developed silver upon development, is disclosed. This material is of very high sensitivity and, furthermore, has a high developing speed and has reduced for formation irrespective of its high sensitivity.

Abstract: A process for efficiently preparing 2-amino-5-nitrophenol derivatives in which benzoxazole derivatives are subjected to nucleophilic substitution reaction at the 5 position thereof to obtain corresponding benzoxazole derivatives, and the oxazole ring of the benzoxazole derivatives is then subjected to ring-opening to obtain 2-amino-5-nitrophenol derivatives. The 2-amino-5-nitrophenol derivatives are useful as industrial starting materials, reducing agents or antioxidants and intermediates for cyan-image-forming couplers.

Abstract: A silver halide photographic material comprising a support having at least one silver halide emulsion layer containing substantially surface latent image type silver halide grains, said emulsion layer or at least one hydrophilic colloid layer adjacent to the emulsion layer containing a compound represented by general formula (III): ##STR1## wherein L.sub.2 represents --CONR--, --SO.sub.2 NR-- or --NRCONR' and Z, L.sub.1, m, Ro, R.sub.1 and M are as herein described. The silver halide photographic material is capable of having high contrast negative images, high sensitive negative images, and good dot images.

Abstract: A silver halide color light-sensitive material is described, which is increased in sensitivity, is adapted to form an image of high contrast, or is accelerated in development by incorporating a small amount of a specific compound which imagewise releases a foggant or a development accelerator. This compound is represented by the formula: Coup-(TIME).sub.n -FA (wherein Coup represents a coupler radical capable of undergoing a coupling reaction with an oxidized product of an aromatic primary amine developing agent; TIME represents a timing group which is eliminated from Coup by the coupling reaction and, thereafter, releases FA; n is 0 or 1; and FA represents a group which is eliminated from Coup in the coupling reaction when n is 0, whereas FA is released from TIME when n is 1. The FA has adsorption properties with respect to silver halide grains and also has a substantial fogging action with respect to the silver halide grains).

Abstract: A silver halide photographic light-sensitive material comprising a support having thereon at least one silver halide emulsion layer, wherein the photographic light-sensitive material has a layer containing both a non-diffusible coupler which forms a properly smearing diffusible dye upon reaction with the oxidation product of a color developing agent and a silver halide emulsion in which a diameter corresponding to the projected area of grains that takes 40% or more of the projected area of whole silver halide grains is 1.5 .mu.m or more.The silver halide photographic light-sensitive material has improved graininess as well as has high sensitivity.

Abstract: A silver halide photographic light-sensitive material containing, in at least one layer thereof, a compound capable of releasing a fogging agent upon an oxidation-reduction reaction with an oxidation product of a developing agent under an alkaline condition. The material has an increased sensitivity, an increased contrast and an accelerated development rate.

Abstract: A silver halide light-sensitive material is described, comprising a support having provided thereon at least two silver halide emulsion layers differing in color sensitivity, wherein at least one of said layers contains at least one compound capable of releasing a fogging agent, a development accelerator, or a precursor thereof in proportion to the amount of silver developed, and a layer containing silver halide grains which are not substantially developed by the development processing of said material is provided between said two emulsion layers differing in color sensitivity. The material has improved color reproducibility.

Abstract: A method of processing a photographic material which contains a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith a blocked photographic agent capable of releasing a photographically useful agent by ring cleavage of a 4- to 7-membered ring containing at least one carbonyl group in the presence of a hydroxylamine, whereby both high stability of the photographic material upon storage and timely release of the photographically useful agent upon processing are achieved.

Abstract: A silver halide photographic printing paper is described, comprising a support and a photographic layer containing a silver halide developing agent, wherein a dispersion of an oil-soluble brightening agent in a high boiling point organic solvent having a specific inductive capacity of 7.5 or less is contained in the photographic layer. This printing paper yields a background of high whiteness even when processed under rapid processing conditions.

Abstract: A silver halide color photographic light-sensitive material is disclosed, comprising a support having thereon at least one silver halide emulsion layer, wherein at least one silver halide emulsion layer contains a coupler which is subjected to a coupling reaction with an oxidation product of a color developing agent to produce a diffusible coupling product which exerts a fogging effect in a developing solution; the silver halide color photographic light-sensitive material provides increased contrast and sensitivity, development is accelerated, and stability during storage is improved.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are a pharmaceutical composition for treating nephritis, comprising at least one compound selected from the group consisting of the derivatives of N-(dihdyroxybenzylidene)amino acid, represented by the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R represents an alkylene group having one to five carbon atoms, a phenylene group or ##STR2## the pharmaceutically acceptable salts and esters thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier therefor, and the method for treating nephritis.

Abstract: Direct positive silver halide photographic light-sensitive materials are described in which at least one layer of light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion layers and other hydrophilic colloid layers applied on a base contains a mercapto compound represented by the following general formula (I) or (II) as a nucleating agent: ##STR1## wherein Z, L.sub.1, L.sub.2, L.sub.3, R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5 and m are as defined in the specification. The nucleating agents can also be added to processing solutions.

Abstract: A silver halide photographic light-sensitive material comprising a support having thereon at least two light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layers which are sensitive to light of substantially the same spectral region and a relatively light-insensitive layer containing silver halide, zinc oxide or titanium oxide positioned between the two light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layers and at least one of the two light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layers containing a compound represented by the following general formula (I):A--B (I)wherein A represents a residue of a compound capable of coupling with the oxidation product of an aromatic primary amine developing agent by removal of a hydrogen atom from the active position of the compound, and B represents a group which is released on coupling and exhibits a fogging function in a developing solution.

Abstract: A two-equivalent cyan dye forming coupler represented by the general formula (I) substituted with at least one substituent represented by general formula (II), having substituents as defined in the specification. This coupler has excellent color forming properties and good dispersibility as well as good color hue and excellent fastness to heat and light. The color photographic material containing the two-equivalent cyan dye forming couplers does not exhibit a decrease in color density of cyan color images even when it is processed with a bleaching solution which has a weak oxidation power or a bleaching solution which is exhausted.

Abstract: A silver halide color photographic light sensitive material contains (i) at least one of cyan dye-forming coupler represented by formula (I) and cyan dye-forming couplers derived therefrom (ii) and at least one of compounds represented by formula (II), (III), (V), (VI), (VII) or (VIII) and compounds derived therefrom; ##STR1## wherein the symbols are defined as in claim 1.
