Abstract: An optical disk 100 is provided with a hub 3 at the central portion of a substratel. A relationship Y/X?0.015, preferably Y/X?0.05 is satisfied where X is the projected area of the substrate 1 and Y is a contact area between the hub 3 and the substrate 1. As result, no slippage occurs between the hub 3 and the substrate 1 even when they are rotated at high speed than conventional. With this higher rotational speed, the data transfer rate is improved, and irregular rotation and the camming are suppressed, thereby reducing tracking errors and write/read errors.

Abstract: A disk case in which the downsizing of a disk is enabled, maintaining the ease of handling in the same manner as the current 8-cm disk cartridge, and that can be mounted on the current 12-cm drive by using a simplified adapter is provided. The shape of the disk case that involves an 8-cm disk is not a square but almost a circle. Further, the opening width of the disk case is 39 mm or more. An arm for ejecting the disk is arranged at the disk case opening side.

Abstract: A single-reel tape cartridge cooperable with an operatively compatible tape drive including a tape catch member (H) includes a cartridge housing (1) having a tape window (4) defined therein and accommodating therein a single reel (2) with a roll of a length of magnetic recording tape (3) thereon. A leader pin (14) is secured to a free end of the magnetic tape (3) and engageable with the tape catch member (H) when the length of magnetic tape is to be drawn out of the cartridge housing and into the tape drive. A releasable locking mechanism for locking the leader pin (14) in a predetermined posture at a retracted position at which the leader pin is housed within the cartridge housing (1) and positioned adjacent the tape window (4) includes a pair of first locking members (19) and a second locking member (20) cooperable with each other to lock the leader pin (14) at a retracted position.

Abstract: A cartridge includes upper and lower half segments butting against each other and containing a disk, a shutter provided on one side of the cartridge half segments for exposing or alternatively enclosing the disk, and a torsion spring attached to the shutter for biasing the shutter in a closing direction. An insertion opening is formed in a side portion of the cartridge for permitting insertion of the torsion spring therethrough from outside, and a protective wall is provided upright between the insertion opening and the disk to define a space by the wall and the upper half segment. The space is so sized as to permit the torsion spring to pass therethrough while leaving a small clearance, with legs thereof directed laterally.

The slide shutter assembly is of a generally U-shaped configuration including top and bottom shutter plates and a bridge plate connecting the top and bottom shutter plates. While the slide shutter assembly is slidably mounted on a front open portion of the cartridge casing, the bridge plate has an inner surface formed integrally with a plurality of catch pieces. At least one guide plate extends along the front open portion of the cartridge casing between side walls and has a slot defined therein so as to extend lengthwise of the guide plate.

The lid body includes a regulating surface for restricting a play of the recording medium within the cartridge casing and left and right cutouts defined therein in a manner alignable with the left and right recesses, respectively.

This drive ring is supported in a fashion slidable up and down, but non-rotatable relative to the hollow boss.

The cassette loading mechanism has a cassette holder provided with contact members disposed so as to engage only the larger tape cassette and so as to move members provided on the cassette holder for use with the smaller tape cassette to a retracted position. The member for use with the smaller tape cassette and the contact member are formed in an integral unit to ensure the correct operation of the cassette loading mechanism.

Abstract: A tape cassette comprising an insertion opening disposed in a main body case and a detecting optical path, for detecting the leading and rear ends of a tape, interposed between the insertion opening and an optical path window formed in the left and right side walls of the case, wherein a first distinguishing member, rotatably inserted into an upper portion of the insertion opening, is supported to be vertically slidable, and a mechanism for holding the first distinguishing member in each state is disposed between the first distinguishing member and the main body case, thereby to allow a tape deck to have a simple internal construction even though the tape cassette is of a smaller size, and to provide a construction of the detecting opening preferable for detecting cassette information so that the tape cassette can be used in a compatible form.
