  • Publication number: 20080080662
Abstract: A system includes emission of first electrons toward a first focal spot using an X-ray tube located at a first position, emission of first radiation from the first focal spot toward an object, acquisition of a first projection of the object based on the emitted first radiation using a computed tomography radiation detector, emission of second electrons toward a second focal spot using the X-ray tube located at the first position, emission of second radiation from the second focal spot toward the object, acquisition of a second projection of the object based on the emitted second radiation using the computed tomography radiation detector, and generation of an image of the object based on the first projection and the second projection.

  • Patent number: 6708054
Abstract: In radiation oncology, a magnetic resonance apparatus is used to plan a treatment regimen. The oncologist uses the features of slice width selection, and depth selection to better ascertain where a medical malignancy is within a patient. In order to facilitate a user-friendly atmosphere for the oncologist, a new user control interface (50) is added to an MRI apparatus that includes controls normally found on a typical oncology linear accelerator. A conversion algorithm (52) translates the linac input into an imaging region for a magnetic resonance sequence that images the malignancy. Along each planned treatment trajectory radiation and MR projection images are superimposed to delineate the malignancy clearly for beam aiming and collimation adjustments.

  • Patent number: 6618613
Abstract: In pediatric diagnostic imaging, a patient is seated upright on a patient couch (10) of a large bore CT scanner. The patient is seated such that coronal or near coronal slices are taken as opposed to axial slices as in typical CT scanners. The patient is stationarily supported in this position during imaging. A back support member (14) supports the back and side restraint panels (18) limit lateral movement. Restraint straps (30) further secure selected parts of the patient. The angle of the support member (14) is adjusted to conform with a selected imaging region by angle adjustment grooves (20). A removable telescopic head rest (40) positions the patient leaning forward. The back support (14), the side restraint panels (18), and the headrest (40) are all constructed of radiolucent materials.

  • Patent number: 6466813
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for MR based volumetric frameless 3-D interactive localization, virtual simulation, and dosimetric radiation therapy planning. Using an MR imaging device, a patient is scanned to generate a magnetic resonance image volume data set. Using the MR data set exclusively, parallel and divergent volume images of the patient is displayed for target tissue identification, localization, virtual simulation, and dosimetric radiation therapy planning. Preferably, the interactive localization, simulation, and dosimetric RTP is based exclusively on the 3-dimensional MR volume data set rendered in the form of at least one of a multi-planar reformatted image (MPR), an oblique multi-planar reformatted image (OMPR), a digitally reconstructed “radiograph” (DRR), and a digitally composited “radiograph” (DCR).
