    Abstract: A controller including a cross key pad is improved so that an erroneous input relating to inputs from the cross key pad is suppressed. In a casing of the controller, a pressing portion is positioned at each of four distal ends of the cross key pad. Directly below each pressing portion, a pressing amount detection sensor which outputs 256 levels of pressing amount data corresponding to a pressing amount of the pressing portion is provided. The controller includes a threshold value recording module (223) in which a threshold value, which is a reference for recognizing that there has been a press when each pressing portion is pressed, is recorded in association with the pressing portion.

The cover member (200) is fixed to the third push-button input module (142) through insertion of the column portion into the recessed portion (142E). When a user presses the cross-key-pad portion (212), freely selected one of the four push buttons (142A to 142D) positioned below the circular plate portion (211) can be pressed.

As illustrated in FIG. 6 (A), a game machine controller (1) and a mouse (2) are connected to a game machine (3) via an output cable (172) and a mouse cable (210), respectively. A signal output from the game machine controller (1) to the game machine (3) is a keyboard control signal generally output from a keyboard to the game machine (3). With this, the game machine (3) recognizes the game machine controller (1) as the keyboard. As a result, the game machine (3) receive and recognize WASD input in a vertical or horizontal direction from the game machine controller (1) and input from the mouse (2) in a direction that is not limited to the vertical or horizontal direction.

To the main body 100, a loop-shaped band 200 is attached with both ends thereof secured to the main body 100. Users manipulate the controller for game machines while holding the grip 120 using the palm and the fingers other than the thumb of the left hand resting under the band 200.
