Abstract: Provided is an electronic pen including an electronic pen main body unit having a pen shape, and having a pen tip that, in operation, performs a position indication, the pen tip being formed in an end portion on a first end side of the electronic pen main body unit in an axial direction of the electronic pen main body unit, a weight member, and an attachment portion that detachably attaches to the weight member, the attachment portion being formed in an end portion on a second end side of the electronic pen main body unit in the axial direction of the electronic pen main body unit.

Abstract: An extractant for extracting rare earth metal ions comprises, for instance, di-(3-methylcyclohexyl)phosphoric acid, di-1-ethylpentylphosphoric acid, docosyl-(2 isopropyl-5-methylcyclohexyl) phosphoric acid, 2-ethylhexyl-2-methylcyclohexylphosphoric acid and/or 2-hexyloctyl-cyclohexylphosphoric acid or a combination of, for instance, dicyclohexylphosphoric acid and di-(2-heptylundecyl) phosphoric acid. A method for extracting rare earth metals comprises the step of bringing an acidic aqueous solution containing ions of rare earth metals into contact with an extraction medium containing an extractant exemplified above to transfer the rare earth metal ions to the extraction medium. The extractant not only exhibits high extractability for rare earth metal ions but also facilitates the back extraction of the rare earth metal ions therefrom.

Abstract: Agents for external application contain as an effective component ellagic acid series compounds represented by the general formula [I] or salts thereof: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 to R.sub.4 are a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, a polyalkylene oxide residue where the alkylene oxide unit has 2 to 3 carbon atoms, or a sugar residue represented by the formula [II]: ##STR2## and R.sub.5 is a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group or an alkoxy group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms.
