  • Patent number: 6804088
Abstract: A thin film magnetic head includes a recording pole layer that is divided into a tip portion, a wide rear portion, a flare portion, and a yoke portion as viewed from the air bearing surface (ABS). The tip portion and the wide rear portion directly contact a write gap layer. Part of the wide rear portion has a greater width that the tip portion. The wide rear portion is provided between the tip portion and the flare portion to reduce magnetic reluctance. Accordingly, it is possible to improve the pattern accuracy of the tip portion width by providing the flare portion, which reflects a large quantity of light, far from the ABS, while preventing an increase of the magnetic reluctance.

  • Patent number: 6600870
Abstract: A video signal input-output circuit and a recording-reproduction apparatus in which a digitally compressed video signal input in packet form can be recorded and reproduced efficiently and in stable fashion. In this apparatus, a clock reference is detected from a packet signal containing the clock reference and a digitally compressed video signal, a time stamp for a packet is generated using a clock signal in phase with the clock reference and added to the particular packet, and the packet signals with the time stamp added thereto are recorded closely to each other in a data storage element such as a magnetic recording medium. At playback, the packet interval is output by being restored to the original length on the basis of the time stamp added to the packet in store.

  • Patent number: 6597182
Abstract: In an electroplating machine having a number of cathode electrodes which are simultaneously brought into contact with a silicon wafer to be electroplated in a semiconductor device fabricating process, a detector for detecting a contact resistance anomaly in a number of cathode electrodes includes a testing wafer which is formed of a circular silicon wafer and which has a number of metal film strips formed on one surface of the circular silicon wafer, separately from each other, so that the number of cathode electrodes can be individually brought into contact with the number of metal film strips, respectively. When the cathode electrodes are individually brought into contact with the metal film strips, respectively, a measuring tool is used to measure a contact resistance between each of the number of cathode electrodes and a corresponding one of the number of metal film strips.

  • Patent number: 6465354
Abstract: A manufacturing method of a semiconductor device which includes wiring dense part and wiring isolated part enables occurrence of ‘Erosion’ to be prevented, as well as it is capable of being prevented occurrence of ‘micro-scratch’ on surface of oxide layer. The manufacturing method sets a plurality of trench-parts on insulation layer, before forming metal plating layer consisting of copper so as to embed trench-parts. Manufacturing process implements annealing in such a way that grain-size of the metal plating layer in the wiring dense part becomes smaller than the grain-size in the wiring isolated part. The annealing, for instance, is implemented with substrate temperature of 70 to 200° C. Subsequently, the manufacturing step perfects the semiconductor device while polishing the metal plating layer to cause the surface of the substrate to be flat.

  • Patent number: 6154345
Abstract: An ID head is formed after a MR head is formed. An upper shield far from a substrate is a first magnetic pole. A nonmagnetic insulator existing through a magnetic gap on the first magnetic pole determines zero throat height, thereby specifying a recording track width of less than 2 .mu.m. The ID head comprises a front end portion of a second magnetic pole, which is exposed to ABS and partly rides over the nonmagnetic insulator, a nonmagnetic insulator for burying a step by the front end portion, a coil which is formed on the nonmagnetic insulator and covered with a nonmagnetic insulator, and a main body portion of the second magnetic pole formed so as to ride over the coil and front end portion. As a result, it is possible to solved various problems of the ID head in which the front end portion of the second magnetic pole is formed first to realize a narrow track width.
