  • Patent number: 8494249
Abstract: A paper sheet recognition apparatus recognizes a type of a paper sheet in an input image by matching the input image of the paper sheet with reference images of a plurality of paper sheets. The apparatus includes a candidate selecting unit that selects a predetermined number of candidate types of the paper sheet based on a density feature and direction features of each block acquired by uniformly dividing the input image and the reference images; and a detailed judgment unit that adaptively divides the input image into blocks according to features of a reference image corresponding to each type of paper sheets selected by the candidate selecting unit, and performs a detailed judgment based on matching values between corresponding blocks of the divided input image and each of the reference images.

  • Publication number: 20110167727
Abstract: A gate apparatus identifies whether a person is authorized to pass through, and allows the identified person to pass through. The gate apparatus obtains information about a shape of the person who is allowed to pass through. The gate apparatus restricts at least frontward and rearward travel of the person traveling from an entrance to an exit of a passageway in the gate apparatus to form space defined within the passageway, and is capable of adjusting a shape of the defined space based on the obtained shape information of the individual person.

  • Patent number: 7856137
Abstract: A correlation value image is generated from an input image and a template image, and separated into a positive correlation value image and a negative correlation value image. The template image is separated into a positive template image and a negative template image. A plurality of positive-negative-separated correlation images are generated by combining the positive correlation value image and the negative correlation value image and the positive template image and the negative template image. A polar-coordinates-converted input image and a polar-coordinates-converted template image are employed as the input image and the template image, respectively.

  • Publication number: 20100246904
Abstract: When a human detection sensor detects a person to be authenticated, an illumination unit obtains ambient light illuminance measured by an illuminance sensor. Lighting illuminance is then determined by using illuminance conversion information, which indicates the lighting illuminance corresponding to the ambient light illuminance, so that when the ambient light illuminance is low, the lighting illuminance becomes low, and when the ambient light illuminance is high, the lighting illuminance becomes high. The illuminance of a light source is controlled so that intensity of illumination becomes the determined illuminance. A face authentication terminal then authenticates the person to be authenticated under illumination by the illumination unit.

  • Patent number: 6813381
Abstract: In the document identification apparatus, a ruled line feature extraction section determines a black pixel ratio of a document to be identified, and adds the black pixel ratio for each block to extract a ruled line feature. A ruled line feature verification section verifies the ruled line feature with a ruled line feature already registered in a ruled line feature dictionary to thereby identify the document. If identification is not possible with this procedure, a details judgment section verifies the image data in a specific area with the image data (characters or the like) registered in a specific area dictionary.

  • Patent number: 5239592
Abstract: A plurality of recognition candidates are obtained through continuing a segmentation to a numeral recognition realized by segments, and an optimum one is selected from among the candidates by means of connection information, thereby preventing continuous numerals from being recognized erroneously. A method of correctly recognizing the handwritten characters, especially numerals written in checks includes the steps of: performing a line drawing analysis is of the character set to be recognized in order to extract a characteristic of the arrangement of blocks, proposing a hypothesis about the monetary unit type, and finally verifying the above hypothesis to display the result of the character recognition. Further, this method can surely distinguish handwritten characters from a bar which is either printed for entry of characters or handwritten, and eliminate the bar from the object of character recognition to extract the characters alone.

  • Patent number: 4933977
Abstract: A method for identifying a plurality of handwritten connected figures includes identifying and prioritizing branches of the connected figures. A first recognition block is formed extending a predetermined distance from one end of the connected figures. Branches having the lowest priority within the first recognition block are erased until a recognizable figure is obtained within the first recognition block. Then, a second recognition block is formed extending the predetermined distance from the recognizable figure obtained in the first recognition block. As with the first recognition block, the branches having the lowest priority within the second recognition block are erased until a recognizable figure is obtained within the second recognition block.
