    Abstract: A data error correcting method for a disk accessing apparatus including a drive head, a speed matching buffer and a buffer memory is disclosed. Data is read from a disk by the drive head. When a sync pattern is detected in the read data, target data following the sync pattern is sequentially read to temporally store the target data to the speed matching buffer. The target data is transferred from the speed matching buffer to the buffer memory, and is subjected to an error correcting operation. When the detection of sync pattern is unsuccessful, the buffer memory is supplied with dummy data directly, that is, the dummy data does not pass through the speed matching buffer. The dummy data corresponds to the target data following the sync pattern that fails to be detected.
