    Abstract: According to one embodiment, a communication apparatus includes an operation mode storage unit that stores a mode in which the communication apparatus operates as a wireless base station or a terminal and a non-volatile memory, wherein a transmission message is output to the outside when the communication apparatus operates as the wireless base station, data included in a received reception message is stored in the non-volatile memory when the communication apparatus operates as the terminal, and when the communication apparatus operates as the wireless base station, after all data transmitted from a first external wireless base station is received, if a communication quality with the first wireless base station is less than a predetermined value, and no message is received from a wireless base station other than the first wireless base station, a channel selection and switching process is performed, and then the operation mode is changed from the terminal to the wireless base station.

    Abstract: According to an embodiment, a wireless communication unit includes a media access control (MAC) unit. The MAC unit includes a clock unit, an acquisition unit and a calculation unit. The clock unit includes a register which stores periodically counted-up first time information. The acquisition unit acquires a statistic for reception quality information on the received packet. The calculation unit normalizes the second time information, weights the normalized second time information using a time weight based on the statistic, and calculates a time correction value for correcting the first time information, using the weighted and normalized second time information. The time weight increases with increasing link stability indicated by the statistic.

The receiver receives a first beacon transmitted over a wireless network while being protected by a first common key and a second beacon transmitted over the wireless network while not being protected by the first common key. The first beacon processor accesses the wireless network using information contained in the first beacon when the first common key is provided.
