  • Patent number: 8200092
Abstract: Where add optical signals have k different bit rates, an add controller is connected to k (<N) of N input ports and sends the add optical signals to the k input ports to perform add control. A drop controller is connected to m (<M) of M output ports and performs drop control on optical signals from the m output ports. The k input ports of an N×M wavelength selective switch and the add controller are connected by k links (L1 to Lk) which have introduced therein dispersion compensators for compensating chromatic dispersions of the add optical signals with the respective bit rates. The add controller selects a link through which an add optical signal is to be passed for dispersion compensation, and sends the signal to the N×M wavelength selective switch via the selected link.

  • Publication number: 20120082465
Abstract: A phase shift unit provides a prescribed phase difference (?/2, for example) between a pair of optical signals transmitted via a pair of arms constituting a data modulation unit. A low-frequency signal f0 is superimposed on one of the optical signals. A signal of which phase is shifted by ?/2 from the low-frequency signal f0 is superimposed on the other optical signal. A pair of the optical signals is coupled, and a part of which is converted into an electrical signal by a photodiode. 2f0 component contained in the electrical signal is extracted. Bias voltage provided to the phase shift unit is controlled by feedback control so that the 2f0 component becomes the minimum.

  • Patent number: 7945173
Abstract: An object of the invention is to provide a control system in which the phase shift between drive signals of an optical modulator can be reliably detected and compensated by a simple configuration. To this end, a control apparatus of the invention, for an optical modulator generating a signal light of a CS-RZ modulation system or the like by two LN modulators connected in series, detects the phase shift between drive signals given to the former and latter stage LN modulators, or judges the phase shift between the drive signals based on intensity information of the electric spectrum of the signal light output from the optical modulator, to control the phases of the drive signals so as to minimize the phase shift. As a result, the phase shift between the drive signals can be reliably detected and compensated by an electric circuit with a simple configuration.

  • Patent number: 7869715
Abstract: A variable dispersion compensating unit compensates an optical signal, and changes the compensation amount according to a control signal that has a given frequency. After demodulation of the compensated optical signal, error conditions of the signal are monitored and an error signal is output. A band pass filter filters the error signal for a component having a frequency equal to or less than the given frequency. Based on the component and on the control signal, a synchronous detecting circuit generates a compensation amount modification signal. The compensation amount modification signal is superposed on the control signal.

  • Patent number: 7848659
Abstract: A data modulator unit generates a DQPSK optical signal in accordance with a data signal. A phase shift unit provides a phase difference of ?/2 between a pair of arms. A photodetector converts an output signal of the data modulator unit into an electrical signal. A filter is a low-pass filter with a cut-off frequency lower than a symbol frequency, and filters an output signal of the photodetector. A monitor unit detects power of an output signal of the filter.
