  • Publication number: 20100229030
Abstract: A communication apparatus stores a first address in association with a second address of an apparatus which is targeted to permit or restrict processing of a received packet. The communication apparatus detects first and second addresses of a transmission apparatus which is a source of a packet received through a network, and if the detected first address of the transmission apparatus is stored, then the processing of the received packet is permitted or restricted. If the detected first address of the transmission apparatus is not stored in association with the second address of the transmission apparatus and the detected second address is stored, then the communication apparatus updates the stored first address with the detected first address.

  • Publication number: 20090287941
Abstract: An information processing apparatus which makes it possible to store encrypted data of packets in a decrypted state, and improve the efficiency of data analysis. A network interface receives encrypted data which has been encrypted, and data which has not been encrypted, from a network. A HDD stores received data. A IPSec module is operable when an item of the received is an item of the encrypted data, to decrypt the item of the encrypted data. A packet acquisition sub application searches the data stored in HDD for an item of the encrypted data corresponding to an decrypted item of data. The packet acquisition sub application updates the item of the received encrypted data based on the decrypted item of the data.

  • Publication number: 20090248890
Abstract: A communication apparatus, which has a normal power consumption mode and a power saving mode lower in power consumption than in the normal power consumption mode and which is connected to a network via a network interface device, communicates with a device on the network via the network interface device. The communication apparatus acquires capability information indicating a communication capability of the device, and based on acquired capability information, determines a communication mode to be used when the network interface device communicates with the device under a condition that the communication apparatus has shifted to the power saving mode, and when the communication apparatus shifts from the normal power consumption mode to the power saving mode, sets the determined communication mode as a communication mode to be used when the network interface device communicates with the external device.

  • Publication number: 20090119550
Abstract: A sufficient number of packets necessary for analysis of a fault in a network communication apparatus are obtained. A multi function peripheral (MFP) temporarily stores received packets as a file for every print job, and stores communication failure information as a log (communication failure log). The MFP deletes data in which no error has occurred in an application among the stored files. Then, in a case where an error has occurred during processing of a certain print job, the MFP stores received packets in a storage device, and compares a communication failure in the job packet in which the error has occurred with a communication failure in packets associated with all the received print jobs. As a result of the comparison, the MFP extracts a communication failure in only the job packet in which the error has occurred, and creates a log so that the extracted result can be identified.

  • Patent number: 7474862
Abstract: An image forming apparatus and job display control method for authenticating a job processing requester when a job process is requested. Upon authentication of the job processing requester, attributes of the job processing requester are determined, and based on this determination, the job processing records of the job processing requester are either displayed or masked when other users view the job processing requester's job processing records.

  • Publication number: 20080062468
Abstract: A network apparatus configured to perform data communication using an address includes a value input unit configured to input a value describing at least one part of the address, a first mark input unit configured to input a mark for separating a plurality of values describing the address in a plurality of parts, and a second mark input unit configured to continuously input a plurality of marks.

  • Publication number: 20070279671
Abstract: A port monitor program to transmit data about a print job generated by a printer driver to an image forming apparatus includes reading the data about the print job that is generated by the printer driver and spooled by a spooler; determining whether an authentication process associated with restriction of printing is to be performed for the readout data about the print job; submitting an authentication request to an external server over a network to acquire functional restriction information used for the restriction of printing from the server if it is determined that the authentication process is to be performed; and determining how the print job is restricted on the basis of the functional restriction information acquired from the server.

  • Publication number: 20070234419
Abstract: An image forming apparatus connectable to a virtual network that requires an authentication process upon connection, includes an input unit configured to input authentication information corresponding to a virtual network of interest as a connection target of the image forming apparatus, wherein the virtual network of interest is part of a plurality of virtual networks, and a request unit configured to send, to an authentication unit, a connection request to the virtual network of interest, including the authentication information, and a communication unit configured to communicate with an external device communicable in the virtual network of interest based on settings complying with a response from the authentication unit.

  • Publication number: 20060198390
Abstract: A purpose of this invention is to allow proper communication between two or more local networks. An information processing apparatus (101) which is connected to a first local network (105) and second local network (104) generates the first IP address for the first local network (105) and the second IP address for the first local network (105), that are not being used in the second local network (104). The information processing apparatus determines the first IP address as an IP address of an external control device (102) on the side of the first local network. The information processing apparatus assigns the second IP address to a node on the first local network.
