  • Patent number: 5516277
Abstract: A process for burning fuel includes the following steps: burning a fuel; putting an inner shell formed in a course of soot formation into contact with other components in a combustion gas to promote a chemical reaction of the other components in the combustion gas prior to the formation of an outer shell; and at the same time, inhibiting the formation of the outer shell around the inner shell. By this process, the discharged NO.sub.x gas is reduced and the amount of discharged soot is decreased.

  • Patent number: 5467757
Abstract: A compression-ignition type engine in which fuel is injected in a combustion chamber during the compression stroke or intake stroke before 60 degrees before top dead center of the compression stroke and in which the mean particle size of the fuel injected at that time is made a size in which the temperature of the fuel particles reaches the boiling point of the main fuel component, determined by the pressure in the combustion chamber, at substantially the top dead center of the compression stroke. After the injection and until about the top dead center of the compression stroke is reached, evaporation of the fuel by boiling from the fuel particles is prevented and the fuel of the fuel particles boils and evaporates and fuel is ignited and burnt after about the top dead center of the compression stroke.

  • Patent number: 5142866
Abstract: A sequential turbocharger system for an internal combustion engine with an exhaust gas recirculation system. The sequential system includes a large-volume turbocharger and a small-volume turbocharger, which are arranged in series in the direction of the flow of gases. A bypass passageway is connected to an exhaust pipe to thereby bypass the turbine of the small-volume turbocharger, and an exhaust switching valve is arranged in the bypass passageway for controlling the flow of exhaust gas to the turbine of the small-volume turbocharger. The EGR system includes an exhaust gas recirculation passageway for introducing an amount of exhaust gas into the intake pipe of the engine. The exhaust gas for recirculation is taken out from the intake pipe at a position located between the turbines of the small-volume and large-volume turbochargers.

  • Patent number: 5125235
Abstract: A turbocharged internal combustion engine for a spark ignition internal combustion engine using gasoline as the fuel is disclosed. An intake system is constructed for the generation of a homogeneous flow of the intake air. The turbocharger is constructed to obtain a ratio of a pressure at the output to the pressure at the input higher than at least 1.5. A lean combustible mixture is obtained at a high engine load or engine speed area whereat the turbocharger can obtain a full supercharging ability. A relationship between the degree of supercharging is such that the larger that value of the air-fuel ratio, the higher the intake pressure. A high fuel consumption efficiency is obtained while preventing an excessive increase of the exhaust gas temperature.

  • Patent number: 4925091
Abstract: A device for heating the passenger compartment and warming up the engine, including a turbo heater having a blower and a turbine driven by the exhaust gas of the engine. The turbo heater is operated as soon as the engine is started. Hot air discharged from the blower is fed into the engine soon after the engine is started, and the hot air discharged from the blower is fed into the passenger compartment. When the temperature of the engine coolant become high, the operation of the turbo heater is stopped.

  • Patent number: 4025588
Abstract: A carburetor utilizing an acceleration pump, acting in conjunction with the throttle valve, to supply fuel through an injection channel to the fuel-air mixture chamber. A fuel accumulator contains a diaphragm under bias forming a diaphragm chamber of predetermined volume connected to the injection channel by a branch channel, a portion of the fuel supplied by the acceleration pump being diverted to the diaphragm chamber against the bias. The diverted fuel is fed to the fuel-air mixture chamber when the bias exceeds the pressure from the pump and the proportion of fuel diverted is controlled by the relative sizes of the open areas in restrictors positioned in the outlet of the injection channel into the fuel-air mixture chamber and of the branch channel into the diaphragm chamber, the strength of the bias and the maximum deformation of the diaphragm being adjustable.

  • Patent number: 4016852
Abstract: An apparatus to prevent after-burning, after the ignition key switch is turned off, in an internal combustion engine which is being warmed up, in which condition the choke valve is closed and the throttle valve is opened to a greater extent than during normal idling. The apparatus includes a pressure responsive actuator which, when activated, causes opening of the choke valve and/or closing of the throttle valve. The actuator is controlled by a switching valve which permits the actuator to be interconnected to either the open air or the air intake manifold at a location downstream of the throttle valve. When the igniton key switch is moved into an off or open position, the switching valve connects the actuator to the intake manifold to thereby actuate the actuator so that one or both of the throttle and control valves are appropriately moved.

  • Patent number: 4007237
Abstract: A compensation apparatus for a carburetor having a first opening in the wall of the air intake passage near the edge of the throttle valve so that the first opening is positioned upstream or downstream of the throttle valve depending on the degree of opening thereof. A second opening is similarly provided in the wall of the air intake passage so that it is positioned downstream of the throttle valve, at least when the first opening is positioned upstream thereof. A connecting passage joins the first and second openings, and a further passage supplies fuel to the connecting passage. Air is reversely bled through the first opening and fuel is discharged through the second opening, whereby fuel shortage due to response delay in the transitional region between the low-speed and high-speed phases, or in the transitional region between the idling and the low-speed phases, is prevented.
