  • Patent number: 7317408
Abstract: A digital modulation apparatus capable of generating a modulated code so that binary slice is correctly performed when reproducing is provided. To achieve this, in a digital modulation apparatus (10A), a DSV change amount calculator (15) calculates change amounts (?DSVa, ?DSVb) in DSVs of candidate modulated codes (CODEa, CODEb) generated by a modulated code generator (11). A modulated code determinator (13) compares the change amounts (?DSVa, ?DSVb), and determines that the candidate modulated code having a smaller absolute value should be selected as a modulated code (CODE). A modulated code selector (14) selects one of the candidate modulated codes (CODEa, CODEb) which is determined by the modulated code determinator (13), and outputs the selected code as a modulated code (CODE) for source data (DATA).

  • Publication number: 20050286400
Abstract: An optical disk according to the present invention includes: a substrate in a disk shape; guide grooves arranged at a pitch p in a radial direction of the substrate, each of the guide grooves being formed so as to extend in a circumferential direction of the substrate; and a pre-pit formed in a space between the guide grooves so as to extend along the guide groove. The optical disk is configured so that an address signal assigned to each location on a signal surface is indicated by the arrangement of the pre-pit in accordance with a predetermined rule. The pre-pit is composed of a pair of pre-pits formed on respective sides of the guide groove. The pair of pre-pits are arranged so as to be displaced in the circumferential direction so that a distance between inner edges of the respective pre-pits in the circumferential direction is smaller than the pitch p of the guide grooves.

  • Patent number: 6856586
Abstract: Crosstalk between tracks, land prepit leakage, and effects of recording power modulation can cause the wobble signal period to change irregularly, thereby producing jitter in the recording clock which is derived by frequency multiplying the wobble signal. This problem is resolved by a recording clock generating circuit having an arrangement to average the wobble signal period, a timer for generating a rectangular wave with substantially the same period as the average period, and a frequency multiplying PLL for multiplying the timer output. The period averaging arrangement in particular determines the approximate average period at every wobble period and reflects the phase difference between the wobble signal and the timer in the timer setting so as to improve recording clock stability.

  • Patent number: 6236631
Abstract: A frame number detector for detecting frame number receives input signals consisting of a plurality of sectors. A sector consists of a plurality of frames, a frame including synchronizing signals and data, the synchronizing signals having a pattern used to identify a frame number in a sector, the pattern being defined to identify a frame number from a pattern of the synchronizing signals in a frame or from patterns of the synchronizing signals in consecutive frames. A pattern of synchronizing signals is extracted for consecutive frames from input signals, and the extracted pattern is compared with a predetermined pattern to determine with majority principle whether the extracted pattern agrees with the predetermined pattern. Then, a frame number is determined based on an output signal of the comparison. In an example, a block consists of for example two frames of the extracted pattern of synchronizing signals, and the comparison is performed in the unit of block.
