  • Patent number: 6261107
Abstract: A surface mount connector is disclosed having an improved terminal construction that avoid shorting between adjacent terminal contact portions, while maintaining a multi-pole structure with a reduced pitch of the terminal solder tail portions. The connector has an insulative connector housing with a plurality of terminals loaded in the housing on opposite sides of an opposing connector engaging slot. The terminals have contact that face into the slot and which are arranged in parallel in a predetermined pitch. Solder tail portions of the terminals extend underneath portions of the terminals and are arranged in parallel in a pitch that is one-half that of the pitch of the terminal contact portions.

  • Patent number: 6193563
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly includes a receptacle connector having a housing defining a mating receptacle. A dielectric wafer is mounted in the housing. A plurality of terminal pins are mounted through the wafer with mating ends of the pins projecting from one side of the wafer into the mating receptacle and connector ends of the pins projecting from an opposite side of the wafer. A plurality of discrete first connector modules are mounted on the housing for termination to selected ones of the connector ends of the terminal pins. A plug connector includes a shell defining a mating plug for insertion into the mating receptacle of the receptacle connector. A plurality of discrete second connector modules are mounted on the shell for termination to selected ones of the mating ends of the terminal pins when the plug connector is mated with the receptacle connector.

  • Patent number: 6142787
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly includes a connector having a housing adapted for mating with an appropriate complementary mating connector. A pivot post is fixed to and projects from the housing. A lever is pivotable about the pivot post between operative and inoperative positions for mating and unmating the connectors. The lever includes an aperture embracing the pivot post. The aperture is larger than the post to allow for lost motion between the lever and the post. The lever includes a latch portion engageable with the mating connector for drawing the connectors into mated condition in response to rotating the lever about the pivot post from the inoperative position to the operative position. A spring is operatively associated between the lever and the pivot post to bias the lever in the mating direction of the mating connector when the lever is in its operative position to, thereby, bias the mating connector into a fully mated position.

  • Patent number: 5842874
Abstract: A surface mount, board-to-board connector includes two interengaging plug connector and receptacle connector halves (18,16). Each of the plug and receptacle connector halves includes respective dual plug and receptacle housings (60,20) spaced apart from each other in a substantially parallel relationship. The dual connector housings of the plug and receptacle connector halves are evenly spaced apart by bridging pieces (50,80) which extend between the connector housings to connect them together. The bridging pieces may be integrally formed with the connector housings or they may be separately formed from the connector housings and include engagement members which engage the connector housing.

  • Patent number: 5751876
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved optical fiber cable connector including a housing having a through hole to permit insertion of an end of an optical fiber cable, and a retaining portion to fix the optical fiber cable within the housing. The retaining portion is integrally connected to the housing in such a way that it may be yieldingly sheared and separated from the housing when pressed down, thus permitting the retaining portion to enter the through hole of the housing and engage the optical fiber cable within the housing.

  • Patent number: 5688133
Abstract: A vacuum placement member for use with the pneumatic transfer of electrical connectors in which the connectors have housings formed from two opposite longitudinal walls includes a flat cover plate and pairs of resilient legs connected to edges of the cover plate to engage the connector body longitudinal walls. The legs include main legs and an auxiliary legs descending downwardly from the cover plate and spaced apart from each other to form an intervening space therebetween for receiving and sandwiching the longitudinal walls of the connector body therebetween. The connector body longitudinal walls are thereby supported against the force applied thereto by the cover member and inward deformation of the connector body longitudinal walls is substantially prevented.

  • Patent number: 5605464
Abstract: An IC connector receives an IC package which includes a plurality of J-bend type leads arranged in parallel rows along opposite sides of an IC package body. The connector includes a housing having package-receiving recess and a pair of rows of terminal-receiving passages. A plurality of stamped and formed terminals are received in the passages. Each terminal includes a contact section for contacting a respective one of the leads of the IC package, a retention section for fixing the terminal in a respective one of the passages and a tail section exposed exteriorly of the housing. The contact section of each terminal is generally channel-shaped to define a pair of rigidifying side walls extending in planes generally transverse to the side walls of the housing and a central base portion joining the rigidifying the side walls.

  • Patent number: 5562497
Abstract: An improved shielded plug assembly includes a casing composed of two separate halves of material capable of absorbing electromagnetic waves. The casing encloses a flanged plug, the exposed conductors of an associated interconnect cable, a metal band binding the exposed braiding and the stripped end of the cable. The flange of the cable plug and the stripped end of the cable are sandwiched between the two halves of the shielded casing and held in place within the casing. A flexible covering has a cavity which receives the casing and its enclosed components and retains the assembly together.

  • Patent number: 5556286
Abstract: An electric connector has a housing with an inclined support flange at opposing ends. The inclined portions of these support flanges permit the housing to tilt, or rotate, slightly around the centerline of the connector in order to compensate for offset which may occur between the longitudinal centerline of the connector and a mating connector.

  • Patent number: 4778403
Abstract: A zero insertion force connector assembly is provided for allowing the electrical connection of a flat, flexible cable having conductors therein and a printed circuit board. The assembly includes a plastic housing having spring contacts arranged in parallel configuration. The housing is secured to the printed circuit board by the tail ends of the spring contacts. A cover plate is pivotably and slidably mounted to the housing. An end of the cable may be inserted between the cover and housing when the cover plate is pivoted to an oblique position with respect to the housing. The cover plate is then pivoted towards the contacts and moved rearwardly to lock it in the closed position. The housing and cover plate include mutually engaging components which effect such locking upon sliding the cover plate towards the housing.
