  • Publication number: 20130300332
Abstract: In a vehicle, a control apparatus controls a power converter supplying a rotary machine which can operate as a drive motor of the vehicle, and controls a cooling apparatus for circulating a coolant fluid through the rotary machine and the power converter. When a temporary condition occurs immediately after commencement of the circulation, whereby the temperatures of the coolant fluid and of switching elements in the power converter are judged to concurrently exceed respective specified temperature thresholds, the control apparatus limits the maximum power that can be supplied from the power converter to a lower value than is normally available. When the temperature of the coolant fluid is judged to no longer exceed the corresponding temperature threshold, the limiting is released.

  • Publication number: 20130285191
Abstract: The power conversion apparatus includes semiconductor modules and a circuit board on which a control circuit is formed. Each semiconductor module includes signal terminals electrically connected to the circuit board. The signal terminals of each semiconductor module are arranged in a line so as to form a terminal row along a first direction. The semiconductor modules are grouped into upper arm semiconductor modules and lower arm semiconductor modules each connected to a corresponding one of the upper arm semiconductor module. Upper arm terminal rows as the terminal rows of the upper arm semiconductor modules and lower arm terminal rows as the terminal rows of the lower arm semiconductor modules are arranged in a staggered manner along a second direction perpendicular to the first direction and to a third direction in which the signal terminals of the semiconductor modules project, the first, second and third directions being perpendicular to one another.

  • Publication number: 20130272046
Abstract: The power conversion device includes a plurality of semiconductor modules, each having a main body section including a switching element therein. In a module unit, a positive module and a negative module are disposed such that main surfaces of the respective main body sections oppose each other. A positive terminal, a first intermediate terminal, a negative terminal, and a second intermediate terminal project in a Z direction perpendicular to X direction in which the positive module and the negative module oppose each other. A first vector V1 from the positive terminal towards the first intermediate terminal and a second vector V2 from the second intermediate terminal towards the negative terminal are configured such that these vector components V12 and V22 in a Y direction perpendicular are opposite to each other.

  • Patent number: 8468499
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed herein for automated testing of an application. A processing system executes the application using test input values that are generated for testing the application with respect to a property of interest. During execution, constraints among symbolic variables of the application are collected. Property state is collected and is used to determine whether a branch in the application is relevant to the property. Based on the collected constraints and branch relevancy, new test input values are generated. The process is repeated until all paths in the application corresponding to relevant branches have been explored.

  • Patent number: 8446114
Abstract: A control apparatus for use with an electric power conversion system which is equipped with a dc/ac converter connected to an electric rotating machine and a capacitor joined to input terminals of the dc/ac converter. The control apparatus stores an angle of rotation (i.e., start angle ?0) of the electric rotating machine before start of control of energization of the electric rotating machine to discharge the capacitor and determines command currents idr and iqr which will result in zero (0) torque in the electric rotating machine. The control apparatus includes a command current correcting circuit which corrects the command currents idr and iqr by a difference between a current angle ? of rotation of the electric rotating machine and the start angle ?0, thereby avoiding constant rotation of the electric rotating machine when the capacitor is discharged.

  • Publication number: 20130051365
Abstract: A method and a communication system including femtocells within a macrocell efficiently manage interference between the different femtocells, and between each femtocell and a macrocell. An efficient frequency assignment scheme for the femtocells minimizes interference between a femtocell and a macrocell and among different femtocells using a spectrum-sensing technique carried out by the femtocells. The frequency assignment scheme selects a suitable channel from a set of candidate channels and ensures that the femtocell has an acceptable coverage area even when it is close to the macrocell base station (BS). The frequency assignment scheme favors a co-channel implementation to take advantage of the hand-off and cell search characteristics of the co-channel implementation. In one embodiment, a joint power control and frequency band assignment technique is used, which partitions the coverage area of the macrocell into an inner region, a power control region, and an outer region.

  • Patent number: 8284575
Abstract: A drive system has a low voltage system, a high voltage system, and a transformer. The high voltage system has drive units which correspond to power switching elements. A capacitance in the high voltage system serves as a flouting power source which supplies electric power to each of the drive units. An output voltage of a secondary side coil of the transformer is supplied to the capacitance. A comparator compares the output voltage at the secondary side coil of the transformer with a threshold value. A switching speed change part changes the switching speed of each of the power switching element based on the comparison result of the comparator.

  • Patent number: 8219111
Abstract: A linear least squares (LLS) estimator provides a low complexity estimation of the location of a mobile terminal (MT), using one of the fixed terminals (FTs) as a reference FT to derive a linear model. A method for selecting a reference FT is disclosed, which improves the location accuracy relative to an arbitrary approach to selecting the reference FT. In addition, a covariance-matrix based LLS estimator is proposed in line-of-sight (LOS) and non-LOS (NLOS) environments to further provide accuracy, taking advantage of the correlation of the observations. Different techniques for selecting the reference FT under non-LOS (NLOS) conditions are disclosed. A map-based two-stage LLS estimator assists in selecting the reference FT under NLOS conditions.

  • Patent number: 8208587
Abstract: In a geolocation application, a method is provided to jointly estimate the time-of-arrival (TOA) and the amplitude of a received signal based on super-resolution technique. The super-resolution joint TOA-amplitude estimators are provided based on either the expectation-maximization (EM), parallel-interference-cancellation space-alternating generalized expectation maximization (PIC-SAGE) or serial-interference-cancellation SAGE (SIC-SAGE). The SIC-SAGE estimator minimizes the ranging estimation error especially under a non-line-of-sight (NLOS) condition. The SIC-SAGE estimator is a simplified version of the maximum likelihood estimator with more stable performance in a multipath rich environment, such as the ultra-wideband (UWB) based applications. These techniques provide the following benefits: 1) it is generic, so that signal processing can be deployed on both time-domain (e.g., UWB impulse-radio) and frequency-domain (e.g.

  • Publication number: 20120139460
Abstract: In a system for controlling a rotary machine, a circuit outputs an AC voltage to be applied to a rotary machine. A storage stores therein measurement-error information indicative of a measurement error of the measuring unit. A torque-feedback adjuster manipulates a phase of the output voltage of the circuit based on the rotational angle of the rotary machine measured by a measuring unit and the measurement-error information to adjust a torque of the rotary machine to a request torque. The phase is obtained from information fed back from the rotary machine. An abnormality determiner determines whether there is an abnormality to disable using accurate measurement-error information. A limiter limits adjustment of the torque of the rotary machine to the request torque by the torque-feedback adjuster when it is determined that there is an abnormality to disable using accurate measurement-error information.

  • Patent number: 8107428
Abstract: A mobile communication system uses a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) technology with an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing access (OFDMA) scheme. At network entry, an initial ranging method selects from multiple ranging signal designs to accomplish the initial ranging process. Three classes of ranging signal designs may be selected for use in generating ranging codes. The information on the ranging signal design to be used, which is selected by the base station based on the cell size of the communication system (i.e., the radio coverage area of the base station), is broadcast from the BS. The ranging signal designs are directly applicable to single-antenna systems, and they are applied to MIMO systems by using appropriate mapping across transmit antennas based on the adopted MIMO ranging transmission scheme. Optimum eigenmode and suboptimum eigenmode transmission schemes provide the best performance at high computational complexity and high power consumption.
