    Abstract: A control system controls a turbocharger which incorporates a rotary electric machine operable as a motor or a generator. When the rotary electric machine operates as a motor using supplied electric power, the control system controls the amount by which the electric power is to be reduced or increased, depending on the rate of change of the rotational speed of the turbocharger within a speed control range for the turbocharger, thereby reducing the degree by which the rotational speed of the turbocharger varies.
