  • Publication number: 20080016508
Abstract: In a distributed processing management apparatus, server 3 has a node table 5, a job management table 6 and a job class table 7 in order to manage the resource status such as the CPU operating ratio of each node in every predetermined time period. When the operating ratio of the CPU and other elements of a node rises after the input of a job and the speed of executing the input job falls, the server 3 re-inputs the job from the current node 2a to some other node 2b. With this arrangement, it is possible to improve the overall TAT and effectively exploit computer resources in grid computer environment.

  • Patent number: 6846468
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for decomposing bromate ions contained in a liquid. The method includes the sequential steps of bringing the liquid into contact with a photocatalyst; and irradiating the photocatalyst with a light ray having an energy that is not lower than that of a band gap of the photocatalyst, thereby generating a photocatalytic reaction to decompose the bromate ions. The invention further relates an apparatus for decomposing bromate ions contained in a liquid. The apparatus includes a first section for generating therein a photocatalytic reaction to decompose the bromate ions; a photocatalyst adapted to be brought into contact with the liquid in the first section; and a light source for irradiating the photocatalyst with the light ray such that the photocatalytic reaction is generated in the first section when the photocatalyst is in contact with the liquid. Thus, it is possible to efficiently and stably decompose the bromate ions.

  • Publication number: 20030033595
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for automatically modifying serious semantic grammar errors in an HDL description and to clearly show the modified portions. For these purposes, the apparatus includes: means for detecting a portion in which variables on the right and the left sides of an assignment statement are inconsistent in type; a template for converting the type of the variable on the right side of the assignment statement into that of the variable on the left side; means for modifying the portion into a correct description by applying the type conversion function to the right side of the assignment statement having the portion; and means for attaching a comment about the modification to the modified portion, and is used to automatically modify inappropriate descriptions in the design information of an electronic system or of a logic circuit described in a hardware description language such as VHDL and Verilog-HDL.

  • Patent number: 6469825
Abstract: In a method of amplifying optical input signals over a wide bandwidth, the optical input signals are applied to an optical waveguide made from a rare-earth-doped amorphous yttrium aluminum oxide material (e.g., erbium-doped yttrium aluminum oxide material). The optical input signals include optical signals having wavelengths shorter than 1,520 nanometers and optical signals having wavelengths longer than 1,610 nanometers. Preferably, the wavelengths range from as short as approximately 1,480 nanometers to as long as approximately 1,650 nanometers. Pump light is applied to the optical waveguide to cause the waveguide to provide optical gain to the optical input signals.

  • Patent number: 5939534
Abstract: Human ciliary neurotrophic factor (human CNTF) mutants, in which at least the amino acid residue corresponding to position 153 of wild type human CNTF has been substituted with another amino acid residue in the amino acid sequence encoding human CNTF, exhibit an activity comparable or superior to that of wild type human CNTF. It is therefore expected that the human CNTF mutants would be effective as drugs with improved side effects such as reduction in appearance of an autoantibody, loss of body weight, anorexia, a dry cough, fatigue, etc.In cytokines having sequence similarity to human CNTF and abundant .alpha. helices (GH, PRL, EPO, G- CSF, LIF, IL-6, IL-2, IL-4, GM-CSF), there are further provided mutants in the D1 cap region.

  • Patent number: 5927093
Abstract: A refrigerant distribution unit 10 is an integrated structure comprising: a multiplicity of branch tubes 12a-12c connectable with a multiplicity of indoor units 1a-1c; a distributor 11, connected with one refrigerant tube 5a extending from an outdoor unit for receiving refrigerant from the outdoor unit, the distributor distributing the refrigerant to the multiple branch tubes 12a-12c; and electric valves 15 provided one in each of the branch tubes 12a-12c for controlling the flows of refrigerant that pass through the respective branch tubes; and a case for enclosing the flow control unit. The refrigerant distribution unit 10 enables distribution of optimal amounts of refrigerant to all of the coexisting indoor units 1a-1e, even when the indoor units 1d-1e have much larger heat capacities than the indoor units 1a-1c.
