  • Patent number: 6668224
Abstract: A vehicle includes an internal combustion engine that is variably connected, for example, via a mechanical clutch, to a drive train including a transmission. The vehicle also has a functional device operated by a torque generated by the internal combustion engine. A load applied by the functional device on the internal combustion engine when the drive train and the engine are engaged during deceleration of the vehicle and a speed of the internal combustion engine is lower than a predetermined value is controlled such that the load is reduced to a first value lower than a second value of the load applied to the engine when the speed of the internal combustion engine is equal to or higher than the predetermined value.

  • Publication number: 20030191574
Abstract: The braking force control apparatus for a vehicle which has a function of applying a braking force to the vehicle by rotational resistance of the engine, by stopping the fuel supply to the engine during coasting of the vehicle and by controlling a torque capacity of a torque capacity control device that is provided between the engine and a wheel so that the torque capacity becomes equal to or higher than a predetermined value, and of decreasing the torque capacity of the torque capacity control device when a predetermined condition is satisfied, and has a function of applying the braking force to the vehicle by a function of an electric power generator which is coupled with the wheel such that power can be transmitted. The braking force control apparatus includes braking force control means which increases a braking force that is generated by the function of the electric power generator when the torque capacity of the torque capacity control device is decreased.

  • Publication number: 20030141123
Abstract: A control system for a vehicle power supply for supplying power to a predetermined power receiving portion includes a first power generating power supply portion, second power generating power supply portion, and controller. The controller is arranged to set the voltage to be output to the power receiving portion from one of the power generating power supply portions in accordance with the output voltage of the other of the power generating power supply portions. With this arrangement, the power receiving portion is prevented from being supplied with an excessive amount of power, and when power regeneration is being performed by the second power generating power supply portion, the regenerated power is effectively used. Thus, the fuel economy of the vehicle can be increased.

  • Publication number: 20030139859
Abstract: A control apparatus for use in a vehicle for controlling an energy storage device adapted to discharge electric power that varies with a temperature is provided. The control apparatus includes a temperature sensor that measures a temperature associated with the energy storage device, and a voltage control unit that sets a minimum storage voltage of the energy storage device to a relatively high voltage level when the temperature measured by the temperature sensor is lower than a predetermined temperature, as compared with a voltage level to which the minimum storage voltage is set when the temperature is higher than the predetermined temperature.

  • Publication number: 20030041830
Abstract: A control apparatus and method of an internal combustion engine performs a predetermined stop control of the engine that includes a control to stop the supply of fuel to the engine upon establishment of a predetermined stop condition, and a re-start control that includes a control to restart the supply of fuel to the engine in response to the establishment of a predetermined re-start condition. The apparatus has a stop control discontinuing device for discontinuing the stop control if the re-start condition is established within a predetermined period between establishment of the stop condition and a stop of the engine.

  • Patent number: 6048288
Abstract: In an economy running mode, auxiliary machines are operated by a motor generator in a state where the engine is stopped so as to reduce electric power consumption. The motor generator, the engine and the auxiliary machines are connected through pulleys and belts. Moreover, a clutch is provided for switching enabling/disabling of power transmission between the motor generator and the engine. A battery is connected to the motor generator through an inverter. When the engine is stopped, the clutch is disengaged and the auxiliary machines are operated by the motor generator.

  • Patent number: 5251588
Abstract: Disclosed is a controller mounted on a hybrid vehicle. The hybrid vehicle has a plurality of heat generating components such as an engine, and a plurality of cooling conduits through which a fluid flows for cooling said plurality of components. A controller decides whether or not the engine is in a warmed-up condition and the components whose rejected heat is utilized are in a warmed-up condition. The components whose rejected heat is utilized comprise at least one of a plurality of components mounted on the hybrid vehicle except the engine. The controller serves to form flow passages between the cooling conduit associated with the engine and the cooling conduit associated with the components whose rejected heat is utilized in the case where it is considered that the engine is not in a warmed-up condition, but the components whose rejected heat is utilized are in a warmed-up conditions.
