  • Patent number: 8424008
Abstract: A first information resource denoting which logical volume is allocated to which application program is prepared in a management computer. The management computer either regularly or irregularly acquires from the storage system information as to which logical volumes were updated at what times, registers the acquired information in a second information, references the first and second information, acquires update management information, which is information denoting which logical volume is updated at what time, and the application program to which this logical volume is allocated, and sends this update management information to a host computer. The host computer, based on the update management information from the management computer, displays which logical volume has been updated at what time, and which application program is allocated to this logical volume.

  • Patent number: 8200927
Abstract: In a backup management system, data is copied remotely from a backup source volume to an intermediate volume. When access by a host ends and a backup time arrives, data is copied locally from the intermediate volume to a backup target volume. During a data restore, a user is able to select not only backup target volumes but also the intermediate volume as restore source candidates.

  • Patent number: 7954003
Abstract: A data storing system including: a first, second and third storage systems providing first, second and third logical volumes; wherein the first logical volume and the second logical volume forms a first replication pair which indicates the first logical volume is a replication source and the second logical volume is a replication destination, and the second logical volume and the third logical volume forms a second copy pair which indicates the second logical volume is the replication source and the third logical volume is the replication destination. The replication pairs may adopt differing possible pair statuses, which may affect consistency between such pairs.

  • Patent number: 7721056
Abstract: The present invention proposes a storage system having a plurality of disk array apparatuses managed separately by different managers, that can considerably improve the reliability of data backup. The invention provides a storage system, in which a first disk array apparatus includes a storing unit for storing volume information, which is information about the configuration of the volume; an extracting unit for, when receiving an external backup instruction, extracting, according to the backup instruction, volume information, as backup volume information from the volume information stored in the storage unit, about a backup target volume; and a presenting unit for presenting the backup volume information extracted by the extracting unit to an external device, and the second disk array apparatus includes an allocating unit for allocating a corresponding second volume to the backup target volume by referring to the backup volume information presented by the presenting unit.

  • Patent number: 7644301
Abstract: In a storage system in which a pair is configured by a remote copy, when a fault occurs in the pair, data to be lost is determined. Provided is a management computer connected to a storage system, in which the storage system includes: a primary logical volume in which data is stored and an secondary logical volume in which a replication of the data stored in the primary logical volume is stored; the primary logical volume and the secondary logical volume form a pair; the management computer comprises a data management module for managing data stored in the primary and secondary logical volumes; and the data management module obtains an event regarding the pair, determines whether the event is caused by a fault occurring in the pair, determines data made to be inconsistent by the fault in the case where the event is caused by the fault, and outputs information on the inconsistent data.

  • Publication number: 20090024871
Abstract: Provided is a method of performing backup and recovery of data by using journaling, and performing management upon occurrence of a failure. The method includes: a first step of setting a recovery point indicative of the given time; a second step of creating an information of correspondence between the snapshot and the journal data which is required to restore data at the set recovery point time; a third step of detecting the occurrence of failure of the disk drive; and a fourth step of detecting the recovery point at which data cannot be restored due to the failure of the disk drive.

  • Publication number: 20070294568
Abstract: A storage apparatus includes a storage unit and a controller for controlling the storage unit. A data volume, a journal volume, and a snapshot volume are formed in the storage unit. The storage apparatus stores, in accordance with a write request sent from a host apparatus, data specified in the write request in the data volume, and also stores, in accordance with a restoration point setting request sent from the host apparatus including a host apparatus timestamp, backup data associated with that host apparatus timestamp in a specific volume. In restoring data, the storage apparatus applies snapshot data to the data volume with reference to the host apparatus timestamp included in the restoration request sent from the host apparatus, and further applies journal data, thereby restoring data. Accordingly, the storage apparatus enables data restoration in response to a restoration request designating a particular time based on the time in the host apparatus.
