  • Patent number: 5750148
Abstract: A cellulosic enteric base is dissolved in an organic solvent capable of being admixed with water in any rate or a mixed solvent of the organic solvent and water to give a polymer solution, followed by mixing the polymer solution with water, then removing the organic solvent to give a concentrate; adding an anionic surfactant to the concentrate and then drying to give polymer powder. The polymer powder is introduced into water to give an emulsion containing polymer particles having an average particle size of not more than 1 .mu.m and the emulsion is dispersed in water containing a plasticizer to give a coating liquid. • Patent number: 5700929
Abstract: A coating base for solid enteric pharmaceutical preparations having a dissolution pH ranging from 3.5 to 4.5 essentially consisting of hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose trimellitate obtained by substituting water-soluble hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose having 1.1 to 1.6 methoxy group per glucose ring thereof with 0.2 to 1.0 trimellitate group per glucose ring, or obtained by substituting water-soluble hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose having 1.7 to 2.1 methoxy groups per glucose ring thereof with 0.2 to 0.5 trimellitate group per glucose ring. The coating base can be dissolved at the upper portion of the small intestine without delay and a solid enteric pharmaceutical preparation provided with a coating film of the base can completely release the drug included therein before the preparation passes through the small intestine. Therefore, the base can ensure a high pharmacological action of the drug.

  • Patent number: 5681382
Abstract: A plasticizer which is in a solid state at ordinary temperature and a pigment are added to and mixed with a coating base which consists of particulate hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose and/or methyl cellulose having an average particle size ranging from 200 to 1000 .mu.m and whose content of particles having a particle size of not more than 75 .mu.m is not more than 30% by weight. The resulting mixture is heated to a temperature of not less than the solidification point of the plasticizer to give a rapidly soluble coating composition. If the plasticizer is in a liquid state at ordinary temperature, a powdery pigment is added to and mixed with the foregoing coating base while spraying the liquid plasticizer on the resulting mixture to give a rapidly soluble coating composition.

  • Patent number: 5560930
Abstract: A method permits the easy preparation of an aqueous emulsion for coating solid pharmaceutical preparations through emulsification in water without addition of additives such as emulsifying agents, polymerization initiators, chain transfer agents, salts and plasticizers. A cellulosic polymer is dissolved in an organic solvent miscible in water in any rate or a mixed solvent comprising the organic solvent and water to give a polymer solution. The polymer solution is mixed with water to disperse the solution in water and thereafter the organic solvent is removed to form an aqueous emulsion for coating solid pharmaceutical preparations. If ethyl cellulose is used as a coating base, ethyl cellulose is first dissolved in a non-hydrophilic solvent to give a non-hydrophilic solution thereof.

  • Patent number: 5512092
Abstract: A method for preparing an aqueous emulsion for coating solid pharmaceutical preparations comprises the steps of dissolving a cellulosic polymer in a mixed solvent of water and an organic solvent capable of being admixed with water in any rate to give a polymer solution, self-emulsifying the polymer solution by mixing with water and then concentrating the resulting emulsified stock solution. The concentration is carried out by removing a part of the liquid components while passing it through a membrane for ultrafiltration till the polymer concentration of the resulting emulsion reaches a level of not less than 7% by weight.

  • Patent number: 5008113
Abstract: Film coated pharmaceutical preparations, which are prepared by overlaying to the outer surface of pharmaceutical preparations, a coating layer comprising at least one member selected from the group consisting of methyl cellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose phthalate, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose acetate succinate, carboxymethylethyl cellulose and cellulose acetate phthalate, are irradiated with light including ultraviolet rays. Whereby film coated pharmaceutical preparations, the coating layer surface of which are excellent in whiteness, are prepared. Moreover, as a content of a white pigment in corporated into the coating layer of such preparations may be reduced, the stability of such preparations can be enhanced without impairing the strength of the coating layer.

  • Patent number: 4948622
Abstract: Solid medicament forms, such as granules, beads, tablets, are first coated with a hot aqueous dispersion of a cellulose ether, which is soluble in cold water but insoluble in hot water, and then subjected to a wax treatment with heating to form a masking layer of the wax. Different from the coating film of a cellulose ether formed by using an aqueous or organic solution of the cellulose ether, the coating film formed by using the aqueous dispersion of the cellulose ether has a porous structure so that the amount of the wax deposited in the wax treatment is much larger than in the prior art methods to exhibit a high effect of masking the bitterness of the ingredient contained in the medicament form.

  • Patent number: 4837033
Abstract: Instead of using a uniform aqueous solution of a water-soluble cellulose ether as a coating liquid of solid medicament forms, e.g., granules and tablets, to form a film-forming layer, an aqueous dispersion of a cellulose ether, which is soluble in cold water but insoluble in hot water, is used as a coating liquid at a temperature higher than the solubilization temperature, i.e. the critical point of the solubility behavior, followed by plasticization of the cellulose ether particles with water to cause fusion thereof. The coating liquid is freed from the limitation by the flowability even when the content of the cellulose ether is much higher than in the conventional solution-type coating liquid.
