The holder includes a first portion that retains the pressure sensor and a second portion that engages with the circuit board, and the holder has a surface on which wiring is formed, the wiring extending from the first portion to the second portion, and the electrodes of the pressure sensor being electrically connected to the circuit board via the wiring when the holder and the circuit board are engaged with each other. The pen pressure detection device can be easily assembled and maintain a connection to the circuit board when the applied pressure is high.

In operation, the elastic member applies a biasing force to separate the electrically-conductive member from the second surface of the dielectric. The electrically-conductive member contacts the second conductor on the second surface of the dielectric in response to the force applied through the core body, and, in response to the contact, a capacitance of the capacitor changes to a determined capacitance.

The first conductor layer is formed on one side of a sheet-shaped dielectric, and the second conductor layer is formed on another side of the sheet-shaped dielectric and is opposed to the first conductor layer with the sheet-shaped dielectric provided therebetween. The film-shaped capacitor is fastened to the substrate in such a manner as to make up part of said circuit, and the size of an area over which the first and second conductor layers of the film-shaped capacitor are opposed is changeable by changing the size of the film-shaped capacitor to specify a constant for said circuit.

    Abstract: A pen type coordinate indicator for a position input device is provided, which is capable of widening a detection range of a pressing pressure (pen pressure) while preventing erroneous (false) detection. A coil spring (i.e., a first elastic body) and a silicon rubber (i.e., a second elastic body) are interposed between an end surface of a first ferrite core, around which a coil connected to a resonance circuit is wound, and an end surface of a second ferrite core, within the pen. The first and second elastic bodies operate to controllably change (narrow) the distance between the two end faces in accordance with the pressure applied to the pen tip. As a result, an inductance value of the coil wound around the first ferrite core is controllably changed and thus a phase (frequency) of an electric wave transmitted from the resonance circuit to a position detector is controllably changed.
